Cowpunk--any bands out there today that remind you of Lone Justice, Jason & the Scorchers, or Rank and File? Yeah, me neither.

New Wave--anything that reminds you of Devo, early B-52s, The Cars, Talking Heads, etc.? Jesus Top 40 radio needs to get slapped across the face with the dick of a song like Rock Lobster.

maybe not what you were going for, but what happened to reggae?

It seems like no big hitters from that genre once you are past marley and tosh.

Anything rolling out on a major label is 100% formulaic - irrespective of genre. Songs are not written by the artists, rather teams of writers hired or assigned by the labels. There is literally nothing to debate here. Hence, artists sound the same in any given genre.

What we learned is you know nothing about the music business, producing, nor song writing.

Also, who are you to be critical of someone else’s opinion? If someone thinks modern music is bland and lacks dynamics, why do you presume their view is “awful?” I would say unequivocally modern music suffers greatly from a lack of skilled musicianship, music theory, and songwriting ability.

Your take sir is an “awful post.”

You would do well to spend time on YouTube learning from industry guys like Rick Beato before opining on message boards.

Because it is.

Those statements were all broad-brush generalizations and patently false. I stand by my judgment.

Not sure if this fits but the talking heads. Songs that get covered all the time. They made good music that will last forever.

Those statements were all based off of everything modern I have heard. I have a 15 year son and he plays his stuff for me and it does nothing for me.
Please enlighten me to what I should listen to because I’d love to give modern music a try! I’m talking about any genre.

So your experience is the definitive SOTU on music?

I'm not doing your research, but if you can't find any relevant artists making new and interesting music in any of those genres, then that's a "you" problem.

An Auburn fan so you probably have the same taste as my 15 year old, so let me take a guess:

Zach Bryan - I prefer Whiskey Myers, they do it better.
Lil Durk - nah, I’ll pass
Greta Van Fleet - I’ll listen to Zeppelin or probably Motionless In White - I’d rather listen to anything new by Korn or Rob Zombie.

So, how’d I do??

I literally posted 25 different acts across rock and country music off the top of my head on the previous page.

If you would like some R&B, Soul, or Pop/dance, let me know.

No, they were not broad-brush statements. It is industry standard, baseline process, standard operating procedure, best-practices, or what ever term you want to use for the modern music industry. It is how the music business works. Margins are razor thin, so there is no room for error. Hence everything is cookie cutter.

What is the title of a recent hit song you’ve heard with an actual intro like Josie, Over the Hills, Welcome to the Jungle? I promise you haven’t, because it does not fit the prescribed industry standard format for 3:30 minutes.

There is literally no deviation from the roadmap for a song combining Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Guitar Solo/Guest Rapper. The chord progressions will follow the same patterns with only the key changing from say C to A or G to E. There will be some rhythm variations based on genre. I promise you everything rap or hip hop will have that same 1980s Boss drum machine hi hat that sounds like crickets chirping at dusk.

Rinse and repeat.

0-3. Keep swinging, slugger.

And to Mr. Music Industry, I didn't qualify my statement with "hit" songs. Quality and popularity rarely intersect in music.

Yes, most mainstream pop music sucks right now. This is not groundbreaking. But dude said all modern music sounds the same, and that’s simply not true. Sounds like someone that’s hasn’t even scratched the surface of the music that is currently out there.
