Sad But True - Metallica….before you laugh, if you’ve ever struggled with addiction, or been close to someone who is struggling with addiction, you’ll understand.

1000 Dollar Car
A thousand dollar car ain't gonna roll
'Til you throw at least another thousand in the hole
Sink your money in it, and there you are
The owner of a two thousand dollar thousand dollar carrrrrr

To my mind, nothing captures the isolation, hopelessness and self-hatred of what truly deep heroin addiction must be like - thank god I've never experienced it myself - like this one:
I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
Try to focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away in the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of shite
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away in the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Best kind of song
The kind that evokes emotions and/or memories from the first chord and kills you all the way through.
Where the lyrics and music go hand in hand
So many songs that the lyrics move me personally
Here’s a few
Mayonnaise- Smashing Pumpkins
Little Motel- Modest Mouse
Missed the Boat- Modest Mouse
Cuts you up- Peter Murphy
Letter to Elise- The Cure
Pictures of You- The Cure

No,
Sittin' in this bar
Is gettin' more than I could stand
If I could catch a ride
Really think, I'd ditch this van
Who knows what this repair will cost
Scared to spend a dime
I'll puke if that jukebox plays
John Cougar one more time
But If I ever leave here
I hope never to return
If I get that van back
Man, the road, I'm gonna burn
Right now, my future's in the hands
Of the boys, down at Firestone
Stuck in Indianapolis
Feelin' all alone

Johnny Paycheck - Pardon Me, I've Got Someone to Kill
I know you'll excuse me if I say goodnight
I've got a promise to fulfill
Thank you for listening to my troubles
Pardon me, I've got someone to kill
I warned him not to try and take her from me
He laughed and said if I can you know I will
So tonight when they get home I'll be waiting
Pardon me, I've got someone to kill
I know I'll surely die for what I'm about to do
But it don't matter I'm a dead man anyhow
This gun will buy back the pride they took from me
And also end this life of mine, that's worthless now
By the time you tell the sheriff, it'll all be over
He'll find me at their big house on the hill
He'll find a note explaining why I killed us all
Now it's time to go, I've got someone to kill
One of the darkest country songs I've ever heard.
