Obviously, you haven’t heard “I Can’t See Texas From Here” - some of the country music gold he wrote.

Alan Jackson as a writer seems underrated as does the late, great Toby Keith. Both prolific performers and songwriters.

Terrible argument. His voice and how he used it was as much art as the written lyrics he sang.

Definitely a bit

He's awesome and has some straight up bangers especially from his early career but yeah the whole "King of Country Music" thing is pretty dumb

You realize getting a writing credit doesnt actually mean you did much for the song, right? He might have only changed one note or lyric and he gets a credit.

But, yes, his voice tops anyone elses when it comes to country music

He captured both audiences like no other. Checks the “pretty boy” box for the ladies. But is cowboy enough for men to like or envy him to some degree. That’s just image.

Add to it the fact that the man is an excellent country singer.

His guitar is just there so he doesn’t have to dance or move a round a lot. That’s the only negative I can think of.

Yes, no doubt. Mediocre talent with a very bland voice.

He made Dean Dillion a ton of money. But I'll take Bocephus over him in concert every day

Good song, but he sang someone else's song.

He was nothing but a cover band.

But that logic, so was Elvis, Waylon, and a myriad of others, including opera singers.

I can't really respect any artist that doesn't write their own music and play their own instruments.

If you are just a front for other people's work, you are no better than AI in my opinion.

He's like Sinatra. Sinatra never wrote his songs and neither did Tony Bennett. His delivery works though

If the ability to sing a song in a way that makes people buy it, want to hear it, want to hear you sing it live, etc. so much that you get 50+ number one hits means nothing and whether you wrote the song means everything, then yes.

Any lyrical songwriter will tell you that a song can only go so far without a singer and a proper delivery.

Go get rich yourself if these guys are no different than AI. It must be more than simple enough to pull off.

Agree with you but country fans and Nashville don’t put as much value on an artist writing their own material as in rock. Probably because songwriting circles in Nashville are a huge part of the business.

Hell, take a look at the number of writers on a a Lainey Wilson cut these days. May have as many as 8 writers.

In other words, country is now no different than pop.

BTW, you can tell in the comments who the younger folks are who never got to hear Jones live. Strait is good but he couldn’t tote Jones’ jock to a live stage. Guy had incredible pitch and tone and was always dead nuts on….even if he was too drunk to stand.

I’ve seen Strait live several times and honestly his singing flat has always been an issue for me.

Merle Haggard could have if he didn't try killing himself by being strung out on drugs.

Same with George Jones.
