2 weeks ago we had the 6 year anniversary of the Conan Show version of Disturbed's cover of "The Sound of Silence", the most watched clip from their channel:
Beautifully acoustic
The original video:

For context, the original song by Simon and Garfunkel:
The original
In your mind, is this the greatest cover ever?
If not, what's your nomination?

Hendrix's cover of All Along the Watchtower
It impressed Dylan so much, he considers his versions "covers" and tributes to Jimi.

The Disturbed cover is excellent, I prefer it to the original. My vote for best cover ever would go to Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah.

Its a nice cover but there are many, many great covers so to say one is the best is impossible. Some covers I like:
Stephen Malkmus-Ballad of a Thin Man
Kurt Vile- Keep on Rollin' With the Flow
Built to Spill- Cortez the Killer
Shinyribs- Drivin' My Life Away (Eddie Rabbit cover)

Roll Over Bethoven
Actually The Beatles did a lot of covers better than the originals.
You Really Got a Hold on Me
Money
Twist and Shout
Kansas City hey hey hey
Please Mr Postman
Rock and Roll Music....

Great one, but still the best Grand Funk cover is Inside Looking Out LINK
A few of my other favorites
Pearl Jam- Last Kiss
311- Love Song
Dwight Yoakam- Suspicious Minds
Joe Cocker- A Little Help From My Friends
Both Cocker and Yoakam have put a good spin on a lot of covers with their unique voices.
