Just picked up a 75' D-35 and want the action a little bit lower. Anyone have experience with any luthiers around here? TIA

One of our posters fits the bill. He's in Baton Rouge and his handle here is The Fretshack.
That's also the name of his business. I think he has a waiting list because he's good.
He's on FB if you need to contact him, in case he doesn't reply to you here.

In addition to Fretshack, there is also Tim's guitars. I just got one back from him.

I would call first before going over there. He's got limited hours and doesn't always take new work.

After how long a wait? Just curious because I've been told he takes a very long time. But if that is the case I believe it's because he does good work and is probably swamped.

OP for something relatively simple as that Jody Mayeaux could take care of it. He's in Walker. But if you can get Fretshack, I would go with him first.

While you're having to wait for a luthier, how about a little LUKATHER in the meantime!

Jeff Richard with FretShack doesn't like to call himself a luthier, but he is a master and the only person to whom I entrust my gear. Elite craftsmanship, fast, well-priced, and filled to the brim with knowledge.

Cantey Guitars

He set up my Jazzmaster a couple years ago and is excellent at catering to whatever you're looking for.

Shane, it was a little more than a week. He told me he only takes new work when he catches up. I had to wait 2 weeks after calling him before I could bring it in. I had heard the same thing you've heard, but maybe he's limiting how much work he takes so it doesn't sit at his shop so long.

Okay, thank you sir. I've always heard he was really good. This supports that for sure.

I thought this was just a clever quip, then watched and remembered how much I massively underrate and under appreciate Lukather. So brilliant.

Steve Lukather! What a class act! He had this, profound statement in my humble opinion, to say about his simple approach to engineering his sound in the studio.
"If a solo didn't work—either because I didn't have the right sound, or because I wasn't inspired at that moment—I'd just move on. A part either works or it doesn't. You can't batter it into submission, or force inspiration to save you. It's always better to just surrender, and then come back later to give it a go with fresh ears."
Great video. Toto is one of my all time favorites.

Yeah, Lukather had his hands in EVERYTHING back in the day. He was pretty much the go-to guitar guy on the most popular albums.

It was mentioned record companies shuffling all the elite studio guitarists into the studios during major artist recordings and giving each one a shot at recording a solo after hearing the song--keeping the recording they liked the best. I wish I could remember the article and song that anecdote sprang from.

I was thinking about this thread and remembered: NAMM has been going on the last few days and Fretshack has probably been busy with that.
Maybe he'll reply when he gets more time.

Yes. I saw that video. Pretty sure it was here on TD/MB. Steely Dan maybe? Peg?

I'm returning from NAMM conducting other business along the route as I make my way back home. Google "The Fret Shack" and you'll find my contact info easily. Hit me up directly to get me the info I need to put you on the list. Wait list to get an instrument in the door is currently about six weeks deep - this is our busiest time of the year. If you can wait to get in, routine setups typically turn in two business days.

Anything worth sharing can always be found at the Carondelet YouTube channel

Here's one of my recent favorites ... a Carondelet Dreambucker in the most badass hands in Tulsa, my friend Joshua Jones ...
