Capping one of the longest and nastiest legal battles in music business history, John Fogerty has gained worldwide control of the publishing rights to his Creedence Clearwater Revival songs, more than 50 years after the songs were first released.

Fogerty has acquired a majority interest in the global publishing rights to his song catalog with the group, which includes “Proud Mary,” “Fortunate Son,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Up Around the Bend,” “Have You Ever Seen Rain” and others from Concord for an undisclosed amount, a rep for the company confirmed to Variety; the news was first reported by Billboard.

Concord retains the CCR master recordings already in its catalog and will continue to administer Fogerty’s share of the publishing catalog for an unspecified limited time. (Fogerty owns the rights to the publishing and master recordings of his solo material.)

“The happiest way to look at it is, yeah, it isn’t everything,” Fogerty said. “It’s not a 100% win for me, but it’s sure better than it was. I’m really kind of still in shock. I haven’t allowed my brain to really, actually, start feeling it yet.”

They really screwed over Fogerty.

He and his deceased brother were estranged over the financial arrangements.

Glad he's finally feeling good. John's a legendary rocker. Thanks for the great music.

Some estimate Fogarty lost as much as $100,000,000 over the years.

He was not rich for much of his post-CCR life. He really only started raking it in the past 7-10 years. His autobio is worth a read.

While I think this is the best result, I wonder if after all this time, he'll stop being a little bitch about everything.

I mean, at the end of the day, a dispute about "money" and "credit" had him and his brother on non-speaking terms when Tom died. It may also open up the possibility of a mini-reunion, although time is running out.

(ETA: I know that Cliff and Stu have said no to reunions and John, at least publicly, remains open to the idea. It is just sad that a great American band was taken down by greed and acrimony.)

Just as long as he keeps them on Spotify. Neil Young is such a pussy. He doesn't even own his songs by the way.

If you write a song, it belongs to you.
Why should you share that?

I believe he had to give up his publishing rights to get out of his record contract.

Enjoy CCR, but JF was an a-hole to his band mates.

Apparently John was an inept business man and would not allow anyone else to participate in negotiations. He got in his own way throughout his career

He is one of my very favorite musicians, but he put himself in a terrible position musically and never recovered and the way he treated those that were around him makes it hard for me to feel bad for him.

It's unclear he was responsible for the preponderance of that.
