You mean Public Enemy?

House of Pain, I only remember as hip hop, nothing metal except with Helmet. Which reminds me of how awesome Judgement Night soundtrack was.

You’re right, Public Enemy, my bad.

Don’t forget Run DMC and Aerosmith collabs as well

Yeah, You are right of course. Regardless, divorced from the blues tradition was my larger point even if I got the timeline incorrect. I mean you could point to ten years before that and punk too.

I remember the Creed crisis like it was yesterday. That era of 106.7 The End late 90's-early 2000's cock rock was numbing.

The funny thing is that all the guys in Creed except for singer Scott Stapp are now in Alterbridge & they are not bad at all. I think I see what the problem was.

I like Creed and think Scott Stapp is a good singer. I saw them at the Centroplex in 2000 and enjoyed their show.

That list has a couple good bands and there not all the same type of music if that's what you meant, I didn't read the whole thread.

Limp bizkit isn't anything like the rest, they aren't my cup of tea anymore.

Godsmack and breaking Benjamin are heavier then the rest and both are pretty damn good, especially before the mainstream media got to them

Yeah. Rap-rock was a whole separate phenomenon.

I mostly agree, but One Last Breath is a fantastic fricking song.

pseudo-Christian

Creed was never a Christian band. However, a ton of people latched onto them believing they were. It certainly didn’t help them with Stapp and his ridiculous Jesus Christ posing. The band was way more palatable minus Scott. As it has all played out, he’s turned out to be the opposite of what fans built him up to be while the other guys have enjoyed continued success via Alterbridge

Don’t care for the band, but definitely respect Tremonti as a guitarist.

Creed turned to shite because Stapp developed a Jesus complex and lost his mind, but My Own Prison was an amazing album when it came out. There was and is a lot of talent in some of these bands getting shite on in this thread. Stapp had a really good voice when Creed first hit, nice mix of the Eddie Vedder grunge sound but with a darker and grittier tone. Sully Erna was a powerhouse, I was shocked when I found out that voice came from a guy that was 5'6. Shaun Morgan from Seether had a great voice too. Amy Lee from Evanescence had a mesmerizing voice. I was in high school when these bands came out so maybe I'm nostalgic but those bands were more talented, more original, and wrote better songs than most rock bands from the last 10-15 years

They just about achieved Nickleback levels by cranking out cheesy pseudo-Christian songs that got popular. Not afraid to admit jr high me bought the My Own Prison Cd.

Oh lawd

This is a microcosm of popular music audiences nowdays. I used to like them then I found out it wasn't cool so I will now pretend to hate them and make fun of them.

I liked Creed. It isn't something I go back to or crave to hear like a lot of other songs from days past.

Now it seems difficult to find folks who do like them. Amazing considering how many records they sold.

Tremonti's solo stuff is really good. I like it better than Alterbridge, it's heavier and thrashier. Also, Myles' voice gets on my nerves after a while.

Creed is not on the same level as Nickleback, they have real musicians, the guitarist is very good - see their work with Alter Bridge.

One, Torn, What If are great tracks.

On a related note, one of my good friend's cousins is married to Stapp.

She was Miss New York (USA) in 2004 - obligatory (since they don't do this on the OT any longer):

I never much cared for Creed but I think Alter Bridge is a fantastic band. Mark Tremonti is a phenomenal guitar player and completely under the radar.

Take You With Me

Trust

This was as an interesting band that Scott torpedoed before they really did anything. Bumblefoot on guitar.

Art of Anarchy- The Madness

I remember the song One being popular. Could you imagine such an anti-woke song being played nowadays

Affirmative may be justified
Take from one give to another
The goal is to be unified
Take my hand be my brother
The payment silenced the masses
Sanctified by oppression
Unity took a backseat
Sliding further into regression

..

Society blind by color
Why hold down one to raise another
Discrimination now on both sides
Seeds of hate blossom further
The world is heading for mutiny
When all we want is unity
We may rise and fall, but in the end
We'll meet our fate together

People can downvote me all they want, but I love Creed. I grew up in an abusive home and One Last Breath was constantly being played on the radio that summer. Got me through a lot of tough times.

My username, facelessman07, is an ode to Faceless Man from Human Clay. Killer track.

People can hate on Creed all they want, but those very same people probably couldn’t tell you the first thing about their music. If you wanna hate on them that’s cool, but at least spare the rest of us and don’t be ignorant in your hate. But just like every other band that got popular, the haters are always there.

Also, Tremonti is a guitar god. The man just knows how to write music.

Ever since AB3 his singing technique has changed. He sounds wayyy too “nasally.”

Shame considering his vocals on One Day Remains and Blackbird were a work of art. I fret to think of how much better much of their catalogue would sound had Myles not tried to fix what was obviously not broken.
