I debated on which version of this to post. Sometimes I'm a bit more partial to Waylon Jennings' version.

These songs were rare until the '70s

Here's a harbinger from '67

Joe Carson - "The Last Song I'm Ever Gonna Sing" (1963)

One of the lost masterpieces of country music, a surprisingly early anti-Nashville piece written by Crickets Jerry Allison and Sonny Curtis. Curtis himself cut it soon afterward, as did The Everly Brothers. But this version is definitive, Carson perfectly capturing the pathetic sense of disappointment in the lyrics.

Carson is one of country's great might-have-beens. A few months after this record's release he was killed in a car wreck at age 27.

FWIW producer Tommy Allsup is the guy who lost a coin toss and gave up his seat on the plane to Ritchie Valens.

You Can't Always Get What you Want - The Rolling Stones

I believe theres a verse in there about it, at least. But that song is 'about' a lot of things

Against Me! "unprotected sex with multiple partners"
quote:

Everyone's a critic
But hey they really respect your talent
Have your manager call my manager
And we'll make records together
Love success and entertainment
There are certain connotations
It's a 'you give-we take' relationship
No, they wouldn't understand it
Come on now, how long you think
This is really gonna last
How long can you hold their attention
Before they move on to the next dance?
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
Coordinate the marketing
Label publicity touring
Consult the presentation
Go ahead put this in context
It's three points on production
Fifteen percent to management
Ten percent to the agent
Five percent legal representation
We gotta an insurance plan
To succeed the inevitable as far as you can
Gotta make your money while you got the chance
Do whatever it takes to sell it
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside

Does Limelight count? They wouldn't be in the limelight without the music.
