Saying Prince is overrated is asinine. Also, not a great vocalist? Most people who say this haven't even listened to all of his work. They only know the pop hits which aren't even close to being his best tunes. Most of my favorite Prince songs are ones that no one but Prince fans have ever heard. His vocal range was insane.

Really? It's certainly not so for The Beatles. In fact, the bottom quartile of every Beatles album is way better than Prince's best.

He was underrated as a basketball player. Did anyone see the special Prince uniform and court the Timberwolves have?

It's pretty cool.

1. Beatles were the only reason I didn’t say “that goes for every musician”

2. Beatles also had a much shorter career, their collective solo careers all had their stinkers and gems

3. No one had ever said prince’s discography is better than the Beatles

Here's plenty it's not true for also:

Queen
Zep
CCR
Metallica
Michael Jackson (WAY better than Prince)
Stones

I mean, Prince has some albums without even ONE good song, much less the median being of high quality.

I know, but I guess I'm just saying his isn't good at all. That Adore song that was mentioned earlier seems closer to Revolution #9 than to Little Red Corvette.

Meh, I could go the rest of my life without hearing another Queen song and be ok.

Zep

Their hit rate is way higher than prince I’ll give you that

CCR

Around for 5 years and all great, they are in the Beatles camp of just inarguably tight short lived career

Metallica

I can’t speak to their deep tracks

Michael Jackson (WAY better than Prince)

Meh, thriller rules but is hit or miss after

Stones

After exile has ton of shite, I love the stones but they put out some crap and that’s ok

I know, but I guess I'm just saying his isn't good at al

Well I just disagree and think that is horrible take

This is actually true.

Think about what is widely considered the Beatles worst album-Yellow Submarine. ...not really a studio album in the sense that it was a dedicated effort for an actual album, but if you look at what they recorded to put on it, it's far better than what anyone can do. ..

It's All Too Much
Yellow Submarine
Hey Bulldog
All You Need is Love
Only a Northern Song
All Together Now

As a guitarist but not as a performer. Which isn't to say he wasn't a top notch guitarist.

I'm seeing him like Billy Strings good, where technically there's much better players, but as a package it's hard for a better guitarist to do what they do as a whole. It's how they relate to their audience and less about how technically good at playing.

Saw him live once and wasn't a fan before going or after.... but left that night with a great respect for what I saw.

No. I’m a big fan.

But just to spice things up for those who aren’t as familiar, here’s his tribute song to razorback fans:

When Eric Clapton was asked how it feels to be the greatest guitar player on the planet, he said "I don't know, you'd have to ask Prince."

+1

No, Eric Clapton never actually said that Prince was the best guitarist in the world

. While a viral quote suggested Clapton replied "Ask Prince" when asked what it's like to be the best, this story is false. However, Clapton deeply respected Prince, describing him as a "true genius" and a huge inspiration after his death.

I’m a top 100 listener of his on all of Apple Music. Top 500 for Prince and The Revolution and NPG. I listen to a lot of his music on a regular basis. Dirty Mind is a freaking awesome album. Head is my favorite track, followed by Dirty Mind.

He was not / is not overrated whatsoever. He was not a one trick pony. His live version at Glam Slam of Thieves in the Temple is fantastic and it is not anything like his radio friendly pop. Same for the live version of The Ballad of Dorothy Parker and 3121. My favorite song of his is Pink Cashmere.

Prince is one of those artists that I probably don't give enough credit to because I don't like most of his songs that I've heard, but that is due in large part because he makes music in a genre I don't particularly care for. So it's hard for me to rate him properly.

I think he was a fantastic musician and also can't stand his music or the style.
