Go listen to just the drums in everlong.

So he can play 16th notes....fast?

That's really not that impressive to me personally, but it's all a matter of taste.

That’s not all that drum part is.

Someone already said it; it’s his music catalog that makes him popular. And his supposed generous personality. No one knows him as the “drummer for the foo fighters album”, they know him as the drummer for nirvana, which was never about the drums, and the lead singer/song writer of foo fighters. He’s known as an all around musician and songwriter more than drummer.

Thread title says "great," and i hope it dies like the Foo Fighters boring music.

yes, he's a "Great" drummer. He excels at playing the drums. in mainsteam rock music he is thought of by other great drummers as a great drummer. rebelrouser on tigerdroppings isn't impressed, I get it.

Danny Carey, jimmy chamberlin, Eric Kretz are better drummers and that’s just 3 from early 90s bands off the top of my head.

I'll throw in Matt Cameron who also sings even though Soundgarden was around before the 90s.

I like his style. But Danny Carey, jimmy chamberlin, Eric Kretz are better drummers

Of course Danny and Jimmy. No way Kretz is better than Grohl. I love STP but that's a serious stretch. Now Chad Smith most definitely is, his recordings are good but he really shines live.

Dave Grohl: "Stop saying I'm a good drummer because I'm the most basic drummer." He admits to lifting all the Nevermind drum parts from The Gap Band: Sound familiar?

Also, the guitar from Smells Like Teen Spirit is lifted straight from Boston More Than A Feeling/Teen Spirit

Doesn't mean that they stole the music. Musicians "borrow" from each other all the time, and I actually like Grohl more after listening to that interview. Just means maybe Grohl shouldn't be considering "great" or some kind of "genius."

“So basically, if you had clubs for hands and clubs for feet, you were considered a drummer.” Rick Marotta

It’s all a matter of taste. I understand that. My tastes are more along the lines of Benard Purdie, John Bonham, Jeff Pocaro, JR Robinson, Peart, Keith Carlock.

I would love to hear Dave play the intro to Rosanna though.

REAL EXPERTS talking about the shite you have no idea about. I would gather lass than 1% of the people commenting or reading this thread have the musical whereabouts to even comment.

Neither of those articles are signed so who exactly is the "expert"? They appear to be a dime a dozen websites that write articles about popular drummers being great so they get clicks. They aren't getting viewers by writing about obscure drummers from lesser known bands that are technically superior to Grohl. I'll go w/ Dave's own opinion and proof he lifted his writing from the disco era. That's fine. Led Zep (now that is a great drummer) did the same thing to the blues writers.
