Yes

He should have dumped Cher earlier than when he did.

He's a douche of the highest order, but Lars was/is crucial to Metallica's success.

Musically, he takes away more than he adds to Metallica.

Either one of .38 Special's two drummers.

The double drummers are a key feature of the southern rock/blues sound as popularized by the Allman Brothers, then .38 Special. The Tedeschi Trucks Band still does this.

Other bands from other genres have as well.

I’m pretty sure you know he means Jannick Gers. Don’t try to get technical. Are you referring to Adrian Smith returning for Brave New World? And he’s right…I love Maiden more than anyone but Gers was not needed after Smith returned.
Yes, I was being technical. Adrian Smith was the one that was "added", but certainly he is not unneeded.

I'll probably catch hell for this but I'll go with Laurence Tolhurst of The Cure. Although his early drumming helped established the early sound for The Cure, his heavy drinking simply got in the way, impeded the band's progress, and was hence relegated to simple keyboard parts, and eventually let go from the band. They wouldn't be the band they are today with Lol still on drums.

Current Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo.

He doesn't contribute to the songwriting process, his appearance and stage presence don't fit the band at all, and his basslines are entirely inaudible.

The fact you even posted him, but then put /thread.

He's as much Metallica as the band itself. Not to mention how much he's involved in songwriting.
