Extremely underrated. Promise you every person who downvoted your post has no idea he was playing with Santana when he was 16 years old.

Great list, fully agree, and I’m rock and roll all the way. A bit surprised no mention in the thread about Glen Campbell, dude was considered one of the best pickers back in the day.

It's got to be Eddie Van Halen.

And he aspired to be a great drummer, but took up the guitar when he was unable to master the drum solo in "Wipeout".

Extremely underrated
Docked points for his willingness to be in the same band as Screech Perry

Stevie Gaines

He died way too young and never realized his full potential.

Yep, who knows what Skynyrd might have developed into had the plane not crashed. He was a great singer, songwriter as well as possibly the best guitarist they ever had.

I have to say all 4 of the guitarists pre '77 plane crash were pretty awesome.

My favorite from that bunch was always Allan Collins...his solos on Needle and the Spoon we're incredible.

I heard an interview one time, and I think it was Billy Powell, and he said that Collins and Rossington both stepped up their game when Stevie Gaines joined the band.

In no particular order, because it would be impossible to rank them.
