For me it’s also the oddity of the comparison.
Randle and BI really aren’t very alike at all.
Though I do think Randle is better than he played much of this past season. And at age 27, it’s fairly conceivable he has another 23-10-6 season in him. And in the right situation he could lead a second round team.
The big problem with Randle is that you sort of become a Randle team with him, but if Randle is your number one option guy, you probably aren’t a contender with that team.
But I do actually think that if Randle ended up somewhere like say, Indiana, he could elevate that team to a second round playoff ceiling. He’s just not a very plug and play type guy, and NY right now is not the right team for him.
A healthy Indiana kind of is the ideal place for someone like him. Two on/off ball guards that defend the perimeter, a rim protecting big like Myles, and if healthy, a lengthy defender like TJ Warren.

Randle next to Bam in Miami would be scary. But yeah Randle is a hub on any team. You rub the offense through him or at least partially.
Thibs is running him into the ground and he needs more work on his shot.

Back to shitting on Lakers and ending the Randle debate.
I’ve heard a few times on the radio that Lakers are not willling to give more than a 2 year deal with a team option on the third year for a coach.
Is this franchise really that broke? What coach in their right mind takes that?

If you are Darvin Ham, are you turning down a head coaching job with the Lakers? He has been an assistant for 11 years and is hungry for a head job. No one will blame him if it all falls to shite. He'll probably get another shot. Why not go for it?

If you’re a rookie head coach I would argue that La would be the worst job to take. Everyone will look and say hey if you can’t get Lebron, AD and Westbrook to the playoffs, are you really worthy of being a HC?

1. They lose and you get all the blame
2. They win and you get no credit (look at Vogel lue and spoelstra)
You may wait even longer to get a new hc job afterwards

Forget the rookie angle....why would ANYONE want to coach a team Lebron was on? No win situation for ANY coach.

It is a no win situation.
If you make it to the playoffs, you get no respect because of who you had.
If you don’t make it to the playoffs, you couldn’t hack it.
This is why guys like Tyrone Lue didn’t get respect when they coached LeBron because everyone knew whose team it was. Lue’s respect has come from coaching other teams like the Clip Show.

Or you may never get a chance at all. He keeps getting passed over. Might be frustrated and willing to take a chance.
It's a bad situation. If a coach came in and the team was decent, he is going to get a ton of praise and credit..

no way I take that job if I am him. That’s a mercenary job...get in, take your lumps, cash your checks and get out

We’ve seen several assistants get jobs recently. What is the deal with Lee and Ham? Are they holding out or not getting offers for some reason? If they were interviewing poorly I wouldn’t think they’d continue to be the hot names each time.

I’m just glad we’ve found our guy. Willie went from player to assistant to HC pretty fast, it’s clear he “had it”. Maybe those guys just dont

Maybe Ham is not head coaching material. He has been passed over for a reason

NBA would be better off if teams quit hiring retreads. As much as players get sick of a worn out shtick so do fans. Imagine being a sixers fan right now hoping doc rivers can fix that broken team

Your choices are based off who applies. Retreads may be a better option than the guy who is an utterly clueless assistant.
Competent assistants may go into meetings with these teams and decide they won’t take the job if offered because the team makes unreasonable demands or is clearly clueless.

Russell Westbrook remaining a member of the Lakers is 'seeming more real all the time,' per @TheAthletic . Lakers coaching candidates have reportedly been asked to discuss how they would use Westbrook in their system during interviews.
bring it

I know he was horrible this year and is obscenely expensive. But he still put up video game numbers, 19/7/7 and under 4 tov per game for the first time in 8 seasons. His shooting numbers were pretty close to his average and he didn't shoot as much as he has in the past. I guess playing with James and in LA just put a spotlight on him. They just don't fit together..

If this happens, it is because Westbrick refuses to take a buyout and the Lakers refuse to attach assets to move him.
I don’t see a way to keep him on this team that raises the floor above last season even if LeBron and AD don’t miss a game.

For the first time in his career, by every metric he was a net negative. Getting rid of him is too costly and upgrading him is even worse...
I think the reality is they have live with what he can and cannot do.
