don’t care about any of that
keeping Westbrook means they will have no way to improve

Getting rid of him will be just as complicated. They went full retard for LeBonk.

How many times do you hear someone say, “Man, I fricked up by not trading for Buddy Hield”?

So I dont know that them giving up assets to trade Westbrook and add longer contracts, even if they fit better, is worse for us than them just letting Westbrook play out the last year of his deal, then hitting the restart button.
Let them trade him and assets for other, longer term deals that dont really move the needle.

Biggest limiting factor for the Lakers, IMHO, is that they don’t have a supporting cast right now.
Their entire roster is LeBron, AD, Westbrook, THT, Nunn, and a few guys on options like Stanley Johnson.
They don’t even have a full starting lineup right now and they are well over the cap with no picks. And you don’t tend to get cheap vets when you are a dysfunctional team which missed the play-in, let alone the playoffs.
They desperately need the likes of Dwight Howard to come back to fill minutes at the five and to find cheap outside shooters who aren’t major liabilities on defense.
shite like lowballing Caruso to get THT paid and avoid the tax is penny wise pound foolish and helped wreck the team last year.

this, exactly
russ going out would equal two and possibly three players coming back. that's at least two warm bodies to eat minutes. as it stands they can only add minimums.
i want that pick next year to be a home fricking run.
top 3 to start plus lottery odds. remember they are getting the pels #1 when we swap. hopefully its not good but it will be something

they're about to lose malik monk, however Nunn should be back.
this team looks completely obliterated...

I still say their best bet is to run it back with Westbrook, LeBron and AD, try to get some vets who will take cheap deals to live in Southern California, hope you luck out with injuries, pray someone gets hot in the playoffs and reboot in 2023 with Westbrook and LeBron off the books.
Or you could say screw it and trade LeBron and/or AD.

You hate to see it…
The good news is whenever they finally do have a first round pick, they will still suck so it will probably be a good one.

The big rumor this morning is Paul to the Lakers.
The Suns are about to go through a mini-reset. They are going to trade Ayton and they have a ton of high contracts to reshuffle. Lakers would have to give up some future picks and take back some other salary (Saric and Crowder or Shamet).
It works on paper and makes sense for both teams. Suns can buy out Westbrook and build around their 3 wings, while staying out of the tax. Lakers get a player they want and need..

So they'd trade 1 year of Russ at $40+ for 3 years of CP3 at $40+ where he'll be 40 at the end of the deal? And they'd give up draft picks to do it meaning they'd be stuck with the overpaid and aging?
I have a lot of respect for what CP3 can still do, but he's pretty much the same as LeBron in terms of injury proneness at his age. It also would probably keep the cap clogged if LeBron decided to leave.

Paul would make street clothes cry regularly. It’s a good fit

What would be the incentive for the Suns to trade CP3 for Westbrook? They are coming off of the best regular season in franchise history with CP3 and Westbrook is no longer an NBA player. The Lakers would need to put up multiple draft picks just to get the Suns to answer the phone.

They wouldn't, it's Lakers fan fiction. The Suns might lose Ayton but will probably convince themselves that Paul can make any center work for them.

Yeah I don’t understand why Phoenix would blow it up after these last 2 seasons they have had.
Sarver will have to open the checkbook, with all the allegations surrounding that team right now he can’t cheap out.
