It works, but why would Orlando do that?

In order to make that work they would have to let Bamba walk for nothing, along with all of their other pending free agents.

this is from april 29

quote:

CHICAGO (AP) — Though he didn’t rule out re-signing with the Chicago Bulls, Zach LaVine didn’t slam the door on joining another team, either.

The two-time All-Star played it coy. And with that, the offseason took a dramatic turn in Chicago.

LaVine made it clear Friday he plans to explore the market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career, calling it a “big decision” for him and his family. The high-flying guard insisted he is keeping an open mind, as much as he has enjoyed his five seasons in Chicago.

He indicated he intends to meet with other teams when free agency opens, saying: “I plan to enjoy free agency. We’re gonna have to experience A through Z without making any fast decisions. I think that’s something me and (agent Rich Paul) are gonna go through and experience.”

Are the Bulls the leader to sign him? LaVine was noncommittal.

“You guys have been a really, really soft spot in my heart,” he said. “I have to do this as a business decision, as a man, to not just be viewed one way and be like I’m automatically coming back or I’m automatically leaving.”

Rich Paul can want Lavine anywhere but it doesn’t mean he gets max money to do it.

And if he ends up there on a minimum contract, the NBA front office will look closely at the deal because that would be the kind of shite the Timberwolves did in the 90s with Joe Smith.

Maybe the Lakers have to give more. Lavine is Klutch, LeBron needs help, they will try to make this happen. Probably the main variable is how much more are the Lakers willing to mortgage their future for LeBron.

I want 2 more lottery picks from the Lakers like everyone else, but the Lakers have 2 options right now. Keep going all in with LeBron, or get out of the LeBron business. If they go all in, this is probably the play to make.

There is no maybe. The Lakers will be mortgaged through 2030 to get it done.

Yeah, the smart play would probably be to trade both LeBron and Davis for a bunch of picks and prospects and start over in a year when Westbrook is off the books.

I just don't think that Jeanie Buss could actually do it, though.

Take Lavar's words with a bucket of salt.

Here’s what I would do...let lebron know they won’t be offering him an extension. Put the onus on klutch to find a way out during the season. They’d get something nice for him at the deadline. Swallow GOATbrooks contract for 2022 and bench him. Go to Davis and see what HE (not lebron) wants to do, shite or git.

they need to take control of the franchise back, and do it now.

Why bench him?

If you aren't going to play him or whatever, then cut him. He can go somewhere else and play. He doesn't fit with James. But he can still contribute somewhere and wants to play.

He didn't do anything disrespectful to the team. Why should they do something that awful to him?

because he’s a negative on the court.
talk to his agent and tell him that if he picks up the option he won’t play. They have to get some leverage and start fixing the mess

Westbrook is not a negative player compared to whoever they could drag off the street to replace him.

Benching him would just make the Lake Show into more of a laughingstock, and it would guarantee another losing season.

They reportedly are looking for coaches that have ideas on how best to use Westbrook. My guess is they are going to punt any major moves to the deadline. Might be cheaper to get off Westbrook then, or if you have bad health and are losing again, maybe you can trade LeBron. Surely he makes any playoff team that wants him an instant contender, that's worth at least a pick or 2 even for a rental.

Westbrook should be a trade asset by the deadline. If a tanking team has a solid player they want off the books, they could clear an insane amount of cap for someone next offseason.

regardless of anyone’s opinion on Westbrook (I obviously think they’d be better off playing literally anyone else with ball handling competence), the below is so true:

Lebron could start a bidding war among title hopefuls in February. It would be hysteria

yes which is another reason not to play him. If you are going to do trade him in feb what’s the point of playing one way and then switching gears

He's evolved his offensive game and has become a pretty good outside shooter.

A team like philly or GSW could definitely end up using him

I'm thinking if they really want to get rid of Westbrook, they should waive/stretch him. That would get them under the tax line (primary goal).

They would have about 30M in space to sign/draft (buy late 1sts and 2nds) 8 more players. It's feasible. But it would be a really bad team. Which is good for us and seems to give them what they want (no Westbrook), no tax, some young players, but keep their stars to sell tickets..

The only way they get Lavine is by sending AD.

I dont even think they have the Lux Tax space for AD / Westbrook / Lavine / LBJ. Nor do they have the assets to get him.
