Honestly that’s very possible and the most likely outcome where they’ll wind up 11-15 in the draft

Lakers say LeBron James (knee) and Anthony Davis (wrist) will miss tonight's road game vs. Hornets, Frank Vogel says.

Unfortunately they are still at 13th in the lottery. They need more injuries to fall further. We need them down to 9 to feel reasonably secure about keeping the pick.
Let's game this out a bit. As you say, they are currently in the 13th slot.
Their schedule is 3rd-hardest in terms of opponent record, but the Lakers still have 18 away games and only 14 home games.
The five teams that appear to be fully dedicated to the tank (or simply unable to avoid sucking) are: Magic, Pistons, Rockets, Thunder, and Pacers -- I think that those teams would finish worse than the Lakers even if both LeBron and Anthony Davis both suffered season-ending injuries tomorrow.
That leaves the Kings, Spurs, us, Blazers, Hawks, Knicks, and Wizards as teams that could theoretically pull ahead of the Lakers.
If the Kings' ownership is serious about upgrading at the deadline, then I suppose a run from them isn't 100% out of the question, but I just think that they suck too much.
The Spurs? Yeah, really hard to see how they get better than the Lakers.
Us? Yeah, if we upgrade the PG position and get Zion back with 20 games left, then I can definitely envision us passing them.
How about Portland? Are they going to tear everything down? I think that injury to Nassir Little was the final nail in the coffin for them.
Atlanta, Washington, and New York are all teams that expected to be better than they are right now. I think that Atlanta and New York are going to make trades to get better at the deadline, and I think they will likely get better than the Lakers. There's almost no way that all three of these teams could pass the Lakers, because someone has to lose games in the East.
If the Lakers finish with the 10th-worst record, then we'll still have an 80% chance of getting the pick, so we need three more teams to finish ahead of them, and I can realistically only see us, the Hawks, and the Knicks as doing so. We'd need all three teams to make moves at the trade deadline that really work, while they get/stay healthy, and we'd still likely need a LeBron injury that causes him to miss several weeks. Oh, and we need the Clippers to fight to stay ahead of the Lakers.
Overall, it seems unlikely. I personally feel like our chances of getting that pick are now only about 15-20%. If they just stay at #13, then we'd still have a 5% chance of getting the pick.

I’ve seen quite a few posters make comments about the clippers tanking but doesn’t OKC have their pick. If so there is absolutely no reason to tank this year.

They won't be tanking, but they were already missing Kawhi and then Paul George went down so you'd expect bad things to happen. I just looked though and they're 11-13 without George so far this year, so they might actually be able to do it. That should be enough to stay with the 7-9 tier where they are now.
Imagine the Pels having enough depth to be around .500 without Zion and Ingram. That's where they need to get.

What's interesting is that Jake Madison has said that we can still trade our rights to the pick. Those rights likely aren't worth much right now, but if LeBron were to go down with an injury before the trade deadline, then those rights suddenly become very powerful, as it would become likely mean that Memphis would not get the pick.
In that case, I think that there's a good chance that the pick gets dealt in a deal to acquire McCollum or Fox, or someone similar.

i figured before i saw this thread that memphis makes this deal for the 1 10 laker pick. want an expiring backup pg? memphis has two.

Griff is a coward if he doesn't call up Memphis and offer NAW and Didi in exchange for Jones, Bane and removing the protection from the pick.
Then right after making that deal call up LA and make a deal to remove the 2025 pick in exchange for 2 swaps, which frees them up to trade 2 1sts for Eric Gordon and John Wall, and the pick is still outside the top 10 anyway

Negative, pick would still have to have top 4 protections. That would be a disaster if we traded a top 4 pick that hit for an expiring backup….

Lebron has left the team and went back to LA, he has swelling in his knee and will be out until further notice.
Perfect time to make a deal with that pick with 1-3 protection on it
