fatty windhorst:
The Los Angeles Lakers might have to trade for LeBron James this summer.
James has clearly been offended by Lakers' management twice over the past two weeks. First when it elected not to make a deal before the Feb. 10 trade deadline after he had both publicly and privately prodded for something. More accurately, he expected it. And second when Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka stepped over the line when he announced James was on board with the status quo; a source told ESPN there was no prior sign-off from James.
He has been hammering the team's knuckles with rounds of trademark passive-aggressive maneuvers since, both on social media and in news conferences. Then he went aggressive-aggressive during All-Star Weekend in an interview with The Athletic in which he dropped lighter fluid on a previously bubbling concept that he might make one last return to the Cleveland Cavaliers before he retires.
Regardless of how James, 37, might try to shape those quotes going forward -- he was careful to qualify them to a degree -- he is a master media operator who, while standing in Cleveland, was speaking to a reporter he knows well. He knew exactly what he was doing.
Same as he was doing last week, in the wake of the trade deadline inaction, when he spoke about how his recent knee injury would likely bother him the rest of the season. The knee surely is an issue, but James was also laying the groundwork to give himself options depending on how the rest of the season plays out for the Lakers (27-31).
What James is doing is likely aimed at one primary goal: Force the Lakers into major action this summer. He tried to do it nicely and now he's doing it harshly.

Was saying this just last week.
All the pieces are in place for it....I 100% expect a one year prove it next season or he walks to Cleveland with that team that really is only missing a player like him. Even has a young Chris Bosh for him in Mobley and an all star point guard to make his life easier.
And I just dont know what the Lakers think they can realistically do to give him a contender to keep him happy? AD can't stay healthy, increasingly neither can he, and they lack the assets to got those additional stars and depth to stack up against the best in the West.

Based on what I have read about Bronny, LeBron might be playing for the Birmingham Squadron real soon.

You are either one contrarian arse dude or simple AF.
It’s a colloquialism.
If you said it was just a joke, you'd have a point.
If you're trying to make any kind of point from your post like you just said you were going for, it's just not a very good point as it doesn't make sense.

“Rich Paul called me yesterday and asked me to quote him on this story about him, and Klutch Sports, and essentially them wanting the Lakers to trade Russell Westbrook and a first-round pick to Houston for John Wall. He wanted me to state emphatically that there was absolutely, positively no truth to that whatsoever. He never did that. He did not do that. The people who wrote the story never contacted him to get any kind of perspective from him on that.
“It is an absolute lie, and he said ‘could you please do me a favor and quote me and tell the world that I specifically said that’s a damn lie. There is no truth. It never happened.’ Just for what it’s worth, that’s what Rich Paul says about these stories that have been put out there. Fair enough. So I quoted him.”

So it definitely happened...

So simple…
The joke was layered. It is a colloquialism. Also a couple of years back LeBoo was called out for having books in his locker that he hadn’t read. They were literally put there to make him seem smarter than he really is.
As for basketball smarts, ask Cleveland and Miami fans how smart they thought he was after he ruined their franchises.

At least we agree on this, lol.

Member when PT counted down the days for this to happen almost immediately after our team was strong armed into a trade? I member…

One source, however, characterized the situation between James and the Los Angeles Lakers as being similar to "the early days of a war."

I'm trying to figure out if this is good or bad for our picks. I've always thought the best case scenario for us was a top heavy roster with no depth and AD/LeBron being out a lot with injury. Basically what we're seeing this season that's giving us hopes of a top 10 pick.
If LeBron walks after next year, the Lakers would have a ton of cap space, but is anyone of consequence going to join AD and THT? Can they build a more functional team around AD with cap space? The Lakers were starting to become like the Knicks until LeBron chose them for personal reasons.

Lakers might be able to draft Bronny with the 60th pick and LeBron might not have to go anywhere.

The lakers are absolutely fricked. They will trade Toní for pennies on the dollar and will have to go through a full rebuild. Our picks are gonna be GOLD JERRY, GOLD!!!

Things magically seem to fall into the Lakers lap, so I'm not really ever counting them out, but this one does seem bad.
For any other franchise the Lakers would have to seriously consider blowing it up and starting over.

Whatever they are saying now, it would shock me if after next season Lebron walked to Cleveland and Cleveland would say no.
He literally fills the one hole that roster has and if he can still play at a top 25 level, they are probably contenders. Maybe favorites depending on how Garland, Allen, and Mobley look with two more years under them.

After last night's loss to the Clippers it seems like fans are ready to blow this Lakers team up. Just look who the top 4 players are on TradeNBA's trade machine:
The warm fuzzy glow from the bubblechip is gone.

The pick swap and the 2024 pick will be gold
Griff really did smash the AD trade out of the park. It was literally an all time arse raping, considering Pelinka was basically bidding against himself
BI
Hart
Lonzo
All fantastic players. Not to mention the picks.
I guess it was inevitable to be all downhill from there
