We should just trade Graham for Hart and be done with it.

What role is Hart going to play if this team is healthy? The Pels got so much value out of Hart because he was partially filling Zion's shoes with shot creation from his kamikaze drives, and his superior rebounding.
CJ 32
Herb 30
BI 34
Zion 34
JV 28
That leaves you 82 minutes for your bench players
Jaxson 21
Nance 20
Trey 21
Jose 20
Of these 4 players who is Hart that big of an upgrade over that he takes all of their minutes?
Not Jaxson and Nance, they bring more as bigs than an undersized Hart.
Not Trey, he's a deadly 3 point shooter that rebounds and plays defense. He may not be as good at those last 2 as Hart, but the 3 point shooting puts him over the top as the player you go with.
I'm not even sure I want Hart over Jose. Hart may be a better player than Jose, but Jose's impact on both ends of the floor with his ball control and theivery is very valuable. I could change my mind on this one with a Zion lead 2nd unit. But still, I'd probably be looking for more shooting than Hart gives.
And that's not even considering Graham, Kira, or #8.
Guys, let Josh go, he's not coming back and that's a good thing because the Pels don't actually need what he brings anymore. There was a time they were desperate for it.

So currently who would be the best big guard around 8?
Outside of the top 4 I don't follow NCAA that much.

I'm not even remotely a draft expert, but a lot of Pels twitter that I follow keep talking about Mathurin as the guy they hope is there at 8.

If we are at 8-10, Griffin is definitely going to attempt a trade using Temple/Graham/Lewis etc salary coupled with the 1st round pick, first right?

For who though? The salary and role math just doesn't add up. I could maybe see a trade like Graham + Jaxson for Huerter + Okongwu and maybe swapping 8 for 14. Huerter is a better fit than Graham, especially in a bench unit that doesn't need a PG. Okongwu isn't as high upside as Jaxson but he delays your decision on an extension by a year.
I'm not even sure I like that one though. Nance kind of makes a defensive backup big less needed. But that's the kind of move I could see. I just don't see a big salary starter, the kind of player you'd target with 8, that fits both role and cap.

Who would want Temple and Lewis to move off of a higher pick than 8?
Posted on 3/29/22 at 9:40 am to saints5021
I wouldn't worry about Temple. If there isn't a bigger trade and you really need his cap space, you can send cash and 2nds to a cap space team to cut him for you. He can even retire and come right back to work as a coach or in the front office.

I'd want Mathurin as well, and wouldn't be upset if we got Johnny Davis.
I will be extremely irritated if we draft a PF or C.

If Griff is honest about his building a sustainable culture and long-term competitive basketball program he has to create a strong developmental pipeline instead of doing the Demps thing of trading off all your long-term assets for short term, win today guys that aren't financially sustainable beyond a couple seasons and have much narrower peak windows left.
We got Herb/Trey, maybe Jax one day, Jose as a JJ Barea like guard, thats a nice start. But CJ is 30. Maybe he ages like CP3, but odds are he's probably only got a couple years left of this type of play, having a guy in the wings like a Sharpe/Mathurin/Ivey to develop over the next couple seasons, that will be cost controlled and you realistically have for 5-7 years would be huge. And you arent gonna get that by trading #8.
You also aren't guaranteed to ever draft this high again. Maybe the Lakers continue to crater, but we've seen the NBA force the stars to align to help the Lakers before, can't just assume we'll be back again picking top 10 going forward.

Absolutely agree that if we get the Lakers pick we should simply use it and draft BPA, but everyone on planet earth knows it’ll burn a hole in Griff’s pocket.

Time to start praying to the basketball gods

I don't see them drafting a PF or C. We have Hayes, Nance, Jonas and Billy. PG, SG or SF is the way to go.
Posted on 3/29/22 at 11:14 am to tke_swamprat
I can see C being an option if they view nance and Hayes as a 4. SG/PG is the need right now tho.

Here's the deal though, the draft pick would put your roster set at 15 without any other trades or FAs.
I seriously doubt he's going to want to stay TOTALLY sound with this roster, so they are going to want to at least try to move guys like Temple, Graham, or possibly Lewis as salary.
We will also be only 400k or so under the LuxTax (and WELL over the salary cap obviously) without doing anything else.
They are definitely going to try again to upgrade PG I think, and I can't see them just relying on the draft for that.
I could also see one of Jax or Nance being included to get a better player given the depth at Big.

Yep, and they've got Knicks at 38-44 and Wizards at 34-48. I'll have to see that...to believe it.

Why?
The committee situation has worked masterfully so far and with Zion coming back one year, a point guard seems unnecessary at this point.
Since if you add a PG that means Herb goes to the bench and the defense nose dives.
I really hope Griff doesn't go that route of selling the pick

Agreed, point Zion changes needs more than people realize. I’m honestly not sure what the best position would be to draft right now.
