quote:Has nothing to do with FA in that proposed deal. A salary is need to balance the deal and his expiring does that. Now, whether that proposed deal is worth it is another story.
Bc we aren’t going to be big players in FA this year. The last year of an expiring deal is the most valuable. I mean if we could just waive him then sure.
But allowing a team to convince us that “taking him” this year in lieu of giving us an asset is a good deal would be incredibly shortsighted.
If he had 4 years on the deal? Sure

He put up nice stats last year on a very bad team.
His whole career with good stats on bad teams, not necessarily his fault though. He's also been racking up some injuries the last few years.

As recently as a year or two ago, weren’t expiring contracts like Hill’s considered to be an asset?

How is salary needed to balance that?
We are sending out $27m in AD to LA to start with. LA is sending out probably $15-20m in salary between us and Chicago. Chicago is sending out $20m in LaVine and taking less than that back in Ball and the pick.
Salary matching happens when teams are over the cap and taking on more money, not when they are taking on less money.

If that’s the only reason hill is included then I’m fine with it. But every proposed trade where another team takes Hill it’s always phrased as the other team doing us a big favor by taking his K off our books this year.

LaVine primarily role on this roster would be to help score the ball. Jrue is one man, Zion a rookie and ain't much else to depend on at the moment post AD.

Lavine had higher:
PER
ppg
FG%
3p% nearly identical last year
younger
locked in longer contract (pretty sure)

I don’t think this will be the deal. Hope not at least

I trust griffin and Langdon no matter what the deal may be so I won’t completely melt

an argument that you put up stats on a bad team is kind of ridiculous. you're not playing your own team when you're putting out them stats. You can maybe argue that his minutes were really high and I helped inflate his stats a little bit

You could put up the argument that Chicago is getting the two best assets (aside from AD) in that deal.

I mean yeah if this ends up being the deal I’m going to assume Beal and Tatum were ungettable. Or maybe literally all Boston was offering was Tatum. And that after doing research and analysis they feel Lavine is a better fit with Zion and Jrue and has better long term potential than Ingram.
Which isn’t an unreasonable take. The 7th pick in this draft is really no worse than the 4th. I’d like an additional lakers first round pick, but Lebron is old plus AD and BI are injury prone. They could be bad in 2021.
Hart and Kuzma....nothing that exciting. But they’re real nba players on decent K’s.
It’s not as sexy as what we’ve been imagining, but it comes to close to everything griffin wanted. Lavine as the young borderline all star, Kuzma with potential, Hart as a nice rotation player, one pretty high lottery pick, and another unprotected first rounder

I’d honestly rather LaVine than Porter. It I’d take that deal. Markkanen is legit

I figured removing their 7th pick and Lavine gave us a better chance and Markkanen and another player. The Bulls seem to value Lavine a good bit. Plus Porter is a SF who can shoot threes. Those are leprechauns down here.
It’s not gonna happen though
ETA: frick a 2020 pick, I want as many 2021’s as humanly possible

First time I’ve felt the need to say this.
I’d rather keep AD then do that Lakers Bull deal. I’m pretty sure I’d actually vomit if that happened.
