Whose minutes is Herb taking on those teams? I don't see either team having a real need for him.
He is easily a sixth man or starter with someone else coming off the bench.
I think he is an upgrade over Dort for OKC.
I think Herb can be a solid foundational piece for the Pels. He is locked up for years on a reasonable contract.

Dort would go to the bench...& fwiw...he won't be back with OKC next season.
For the Spurs...it would definitely be the 33 year old Harrison Barnes going to the bench. Still a quite useful player off the bench...but can't handle heavy minutes like he once could. Plus,,,HB is on an expiring & would need to be resigned at 34 years old...if they want him back.

1. No, he's not.
2. The Thunder are loaded. Jones would barely crack their 10-man rotation right now.
3. Jones shouldn't be starting for us, yet he's a lock starter for the best team in the league?
4. Jones is functionally weak. He's sub 200lbs at 6'8. Dort is built like a linebacker and can dish out punishment. They need his bulk and power. You are way underestimating his value.

I love Herb but you have to do that trade and is likely mutually beneficial for both sides. Certainly way more hesitancy from OKC lol.

Accept it, we need to start over and do a full on rebuild with Fears and Queen as the beginning of a new core. By the time we get to the point where they are entering their prime, Herb, Trey and Zion's contracts will be running out and they are sure as shite not re-signing with us.
I'm done with Zion, and I don't think that Trey is a mentor-type for the youngins, but I'd prefer at least keeping Herb throughout his contract over getting a mid/late 1st for him. Surrounding Fears/Queen with shite may help us get better picks, but it won't necessarily help them develop. They need to have at least some talent around them to get better.
Next season, something like Fears/Herb/Bay/Queen/Missi is good enough to help Fears and Queen develop, but bad enough to definitely be in the lottery unless both of the rookies take a big jump (which I'd consider a great thing).

We still need talent around them, especially shooters that open up the floor. There is no reason to trade Murphy unless we get a monster return. I mean like a young prospect, and multiple 1sts, that have potential lottery value. Even after we do that, we are going to turn around and be looking for the same kind of unicorn (6'10 shooter). Murphy isn't a star, or maybe not a top 3 option. But he's a 20+ppg volume shooter, especially on a developing team.

No, that isn't enough. We need scoring around both rookies. Jones has little value and shouldn't be starting with that group. At least Bey gives us a physical presence and the ability to play 3 different spots in the line-up. I'd happily extend him. Jones is declining physically, and his game is predicated on effort. How much longer will that last? He's not a starter in this league and is match-up dependent. I think we should move on, if we can.

done with Zion
This is the part you gloss over. Zion, Murray, and Poole are combined over 100M in salary next year. We have to replace that, if we move them. If we could turn that into 2 other 20M+ dollar starter level guys, we are more than competitive. No need to do a conventional rebuild (tank and stash). We really aren't that far away, if we make the smart moves..

This is how you get on a treadmill of mediocrity. There is a perfect opportunity here to blow it up and do a serious rebuild. They seem to have already hit on Queen and Fears. Squandering that in a foolish attempt to win now is how a team like the Pelicans remain on a treadmill of mediocrity at best year after year.
Stop doing that crap. Get it in your head that the time to win is 3 or 4 years from now. Queen and Fears will be entering their prime. Younger drafted players will be coming into their own. And gaps will be filled with free agent signings and/or trades when the time comes.
If the goal is a championship, you have to blow it up and rebuild right to seriously compete in 3 or 4 years. If your goal is to just not completely suck and be content with competing for the play-in or at best a 5th seed each year, then just keep doing the same old stuff.
