As GREAT as he is on defense, he's too much of a liability on offense to steal minutes from Trey, Herb, CJ, or Hawkins.

This is a really bad take.

For the season, Dyson's +/- is at -9.

Hawk's is -58.

I absolutely love Hawk's game, but he is a much bigger defensive liability right now than most of you want to admit.

Hawk will be a great player for us. Of that I have no doubt. Right now, he is just a shooter though. Which is fine, and he has shown flashes of creation, cutting ability etc.

Hawk, like Trey his rookie season, desperately needs to work on his strength and lateral quickness, but thankfully we’re now in a position where we hopefully won’t be relying on him playing 25+ a game

In general I agree. But there will be some games where Dyson’s defense will be prioritized. And while Dyson is infinitely behind Hawk offensively, he’s way, way better defensively. It’s a great luxury to have.

Yeah I said something to that effect before where Willie will have to mix and match them at times depending on matchups/situations.

But in the long run Hawkins will see more minutes because we need his skill set more often, and because CJ effectively fills the role Dyson does, even if not as good defensively but close enough, while being a FAR better scorer/facilitator.

In the long run, I also think Hawk's defense will improve a lot.

The effort is there on defense. He just needs to play more in control there and work on technique. And I'm not worried about him taking to the coaching, so agreed his defense will improve dramatically as we go.

On the flipside Dyson hasn't really shown enough that he will dramatically improve on offense, and that will always leave him as the odd man out if he can't get it going.

He's a rookie. Most don't play good defense in their rookie season.

Hawk has been a very pleasant surprise offensively but he’s going to be hard to play because of how bad he is defensively.
