The only thing I can see the G League being good for when looking at a real NBA player is to be an offensive slump buster.

You aren’t going to get better on defense in the G League.

If you are a legit NBA player already then I think you would grow more on defense guarding other NBA players and building chemistry with your teammates.

Hawkins building chemistry with g league players isn’t doing anything. Additionally, Hawkins shooting 25 times clearly indicates the coaches aren’t focusing him on defense as he turned into the primary scorer. Also trying to learn team defense with a bunch of non-NBA players isn’t going to improve you.

If we are supposedly worried about Hawkins defense then have you go follow around CJ and Herb.

Good grief this is dumb. You learn defense from coaching. And the Pels have developmental coaches on the Squadron who can review film with him and help him improve. And "team defense" isn't nearly as big of a problem for Hawkins as "individual defense" (i.e. guarding his man).

And playing 35 minutes per game, with the benefit of Pelicans coaches who are working with him on specific skills, has the potential to improve his defense significantly.

What will not improve Hawk's defense is sitting on the bench in New Orleans or playing a few minutes of garbage time.

I get where you’re coming from but realistically the best way to improve his defense is playing against NBA players in regular season games not in the gleague. I haven’t heard of many players go down in the gleague so their defense can be better. Most go down there either for conditioning or to get their offensive game going. Practicing defense against guys of extremely less caliber than NBA rotation players is nonsensical in regards to improving your defense. Its so why many of us roll our eyes when Willie says he was sent down so he could improve his defense.

Hawkins is not so bad that he needs to go to G League unless they want him to get out of an offensive slump. I am sorry, but Willie has shown to not be great at coaching. His constant bs about being tough is just stupid. Physical basketball can be totally controlled and manipulated by the officiating. We see this constantly play out in the NBA.

Willie needs to have better rotations, scheme development, and time out/in game adjustments.

He scores 32 points on his debut.

10/25 from the field
5/13 from 3
+/- -13

Whoof - that’s peak Allen Iverson type numbers

Probably right. I didn’t take into consideration the volume of 3s when looking at his field goal percentage. I don’t give a frick if he shot 0% kid should be getting minutes on our NBA team.

Ray Allen career average is like 45%. Volume shooters who tend to shoot a lot from deep aren't going to have those Uber 50/40 type of percentages very frequently in their careers.

Not really. He still didn’t deserve to go to gleague and is probably being called up only due to Trey being questionable.

Yea he may go back at some point...u gotta do more than be able to shoot the ball really get time on a deep team. Having the lowest fg% of all your gaurds in rotation don't help either. But I believe he'll get there soon

Not sure if this has been brought up here, but Hawkins is basically on the exact same trajectory as Trey was as a rookie. Y’all need to relax.

Im not getting into this argument with you. Hes our best movement shooter for a team that needs to shoot more. Lowest fg %- lol ok. We’re not as deep as you think. I think thats a misconception. We keep giving too many minutes to Naji/Dyson.
