I think he is trying to say “If we can absorb Turner into cap space, Indiana won’t want Hill back.”
Granted, they might considering they used to have him before Dell signed him to that bonehead deal and, IIRC, Larry Bird has since retired. Bird had basically told Hill “See you in the G league” before he hit free agency.

I want to do the Turner trade. If that doesn't work, I want to trade with Atlanta and use the #8 on Hayes, assuming he's still there, and trade the #10 for some other player.

I’m sure the 4th pick is a trade. I want it to be Turner and 18 (Ty Jerome) for 4 and Hill. But I think that Love, 8 (Culver), and future 1st round picks has some legs.

Should.
Turner's contract is $18m. Hill's contract is about $13.4m. And we should have well more than the $5m difference in contract values in cap space available.

It works, the trade would be part of the lakers trade so we have room to take the contract, it doesn’t have to match up exactly

I'm not against paying people, but both of those guys are getting paid regardless of if it looks like they've earned it or not.

I know we could just be doing our due diligence. But it feels like there's too much smoke for there not to be fire.
And it doesn't look like we'd be taking a deal with PHX, or CHI because we haven't been working out guys in their range.
