It's a win-win for the Rockets. If we match the max deal then that's less money for a division rival, and if we don't then they get a stud SG in Gordon. I still see us matching the offer even if it's a max.

He's not going to cost that. All we have to do is match 4/$58 and I think at least part of the reason for Demps trading away Okafor/Ariza was to have the cap space to scare competing offers away and get Gordon to sign for something between the 4/$50 previously offered and the 4/$58. Or maybe you give him the full 4/$58 but make it incentivized.

The max they can offer is lower than the max we can offer. So yes, we'll match. And should.

This is the part that people just can't seem to grasp. The new CBA has much more restrictive max contracts.

You would rather overpay Dragic then overpay Gordon?

Make Houston offer Max money so they can't go after DWill and Howard. Then they are left with Gordon.

Draft Rivers.

Overpay to get Dragic here (but less than max money) so Gordon is in Houston with nobody else.

Offer Hibbert a huge contract and let Hibbert and Davis be the dominant inside defenders in the conference.

Then signe Beasly or Josh Howard or Anthony Randolph

Dragic
Rivers
Beasley/Howard/Randolph
Davis
Hibbert

Or next year sign somebody like Dorell Wright or Corey Brewer or Marvin Williams

Dragic
Rivers
Wright/Brewer/Williams
Davis
Hibbert

Either way, we aren't hamstrung with money issues becuase Hibbert would be our only big money player and we could pay some really good bench guys.

Needless to say... Championship!!!

If you aren't sold on Gordon's health long term, and by all accounts the Hornets are sold on Gordon, then its not unreasonable.

Lowry, despite what the majority here think, is a good pg- better than Jack when healthy- and is very cheap. Most agree that there isn't much difference in players this draft from about 7-20. If its as deep as everyone says, those picks could be huge.

I don't know if I pull the trigger on this deal. If Gordon is healthy, he's worth much more.

So you wouldn't be bothered that we traded CP3 for #10 and Aminu?

At this point I wouldn't be. If we kept Chris last year, we don't get AD and we still lose Paul. Throw in the #10 and it sweetens it.

FWIW, I'm for matching Houston's offer to keep Gordon. I'm timid with his injury history, but we won't be able to get a SG of his caliber to NO anytime soon.

no big shite that the rockets plan on making the max contract offer to EG10. I'm sure some team would have done it no matter what in FA.

We'll just match it.

This shouldn't be a shock to hornets personnel or hornets fans.

And if Indy matches (and all indications are that they will), we're left with Davis as the only great talent on the team. I highly doubt that that's enough to attract FAs next season. We need to match whatever Houston offers.

If the Rockets want Gordon bad enough, Hornets should just deal him there.

Gordon for Lowry/14/16.

Again, GORDON IS NOT UNDER CONTRACT AND CAN NOT BE TRADED UNTIL AFTER THE DRAFT. If we don't want to match the offer that Houston offers, we get dick. That's all there is to it.

The biggest deal we can give is 5y $75m. The biggest 4y deal we can give is 4y $58m. The biggest deal we have to match is 4y $55m, around $1m a season off what we offered before. We'd match likely, given the past and the market, but maybe not if new ownership is brazen or has another plan.

AD changes everything, maybe.

The above is contingent upon the cap being what it was last year.

If Houston puts in the offer and Gordon agrees to terms, all the Hornets have to do is match, correct? No way to go any higher?

Also when did you decide to go with 42 and not 420 ft Jesus?

There is a max base salary based on years under contract and max 4.5% raises (none are compounded) for most teams. Hornets can offer max 7.5% raises. They can tack on that year too.

I see no way for the Rockets (or anyone) to get above the 4y $55m offer, which is closer to what we offered at the deadline.

Name: A few reasons, not the least of which was some goof causing some trouble with that name in other contexts and some minor ID theft. ESPN asked for real names there, so fine, but that compounded the problem. Also, it's too awesome a name and causes discussion in itself...like my good looks... sorry we (I?) ran you off...

So they would probably be saving the Hornets some money by putting in a max offer? In essence giving the Hornets an out so they can avoid the 4y 58m or 5y 75m deal? Or do you think Gordon would settle for 4y $50m take it or leave it offer to avoid the QO?

Not scared by off by your name or good looks. I have that same problem

Used to post on H247 a good bit during the halycon days of 07/08. The name jogged my memory and it suddenly came back to me.

I meant from Hornets247.

I think we'll pay him 4y, $50m-$55m, trade him, or he signs the QO, in decreasing order. I think the top 2 are even money, with the QO being, say, 10% chance.

If no offers materialize, he may take it rather than 4y $50m-$52m just to prove his worth or get out.

No offers from outsidethe means he gets the offer from last time, maybe less, if I'm DD, so Rockets don't do is a favor by offering.
