Seems like a natural replacement. Around the same size. Richardson is of course the seasoned vet and better defender but Hawkins is the better shooter.

Hard to say because Richardson's minutes don't exist when we are 100% healthy.

They paid 4 2nds to dump Graham’s salary for Richardson’s expiring contract. I think it’s highly unlikely Richardson is back unless it’s on a much cheaper deal.

What needs to happen with Hawkins is they need to give him some bench minutes with Zion and see if they can duplicate the success Zion had with JJ. If something like that happens I would imagine he takes a few minutes from multiple players, maybe even CJ and Trey. But if a Zion/Hawkins 2 man game is rolling against bench units, you probably don’t have to have as much defense on the court at that time.

If Hawkins plays in a non mop up duty in the first 10 games of the year we're in trouble.

Given Green’s proclivities there’s no way he plays Hawkins much next year unless Hawkins is very good very early.

If his shot is as good as they say then I don’t see how Willie could keep him from getting rotation minutes. We need another sharpshooter besides Trey and if he’s that guy he will see minutes. But I agree that to begin the year I doubt we see him much.

People love to say this but Herb started like 70+ games as a rookie. Trey was playing a ton out of the gate as a rookie and got sent to the bench after 15 or so games because he was playing awfully.

Let Richardson walk, trade Naji for a second. Free up those minutes for Trey and Dyson.

Work Hawkins in when/if he’s ready

More likely to see a big jump in Daniels minutes.

Jose will be out of the rotation too.

Herb was a lights out defender day one and we had an injury to B.I. that season to start.

Cool. He still has this weird reputation for not playing rookies when he’s played rookies plenty.

Herb
Trey got his shot, lost it, and then Willie went to him again later.
Jose got plenty of time as a rookie.
Dyson was logging over 30 minutes until he got hurt.

Would I like for him to give the young guys more time? Absolutely. I’m not a fan of Richardson or Naji and think they’re stealing valuable development from guys who will be a part of the future. But to say he doesn’t give those guys an opportunity would be incorrect.

Hawkins can help take part of Zion’s 36 minutes a game, for the 63 games he will miss.

No Jose will not be out of the rotation. He brings too much energy to the 2nd team. I don’t know why people want to get rid of Naji either? He is vital to the apes team. Anytime a starter goes down it’s always Naji that logs the most minutes from it. He’s that tough, hard charging wing you need. His shot is off and on but he can play 2-4 depending on what they are trying to do and he did last year. Plus he’s cheap. We need as many good players on cheap deals as we can with the big 3’s contracts.

Hawkins played two years.
Herb and Jose were four year players.
Trey played three.
Dyson is over a year younger than all of them

Naji is great regular season depth but that’s it. Can’t close and can’t be in your top 8 if you’re serious about being good. Plus every minute he plays is taking a minute away from someone we need to develop much more than him.

Trade him for a second or send him away in the inevitable Jonas deal. But Naji needs to go.

I disagree. Naji is on a great contract. If he would stay long term for anything close to that then you keep him. I think he wants to be here and is a great energy guy.

The idea is that Naji should essentially be our #14/15 player

CJ/ Jose/ Kira
BI/ Hawkins/ Dyson
Herb/ Trey/ Naji
Zion/ Liddell/ Nance
Val/

Billy and Temple are those last 2 spots. They are 8mil combined and we can definitely upgrade with that.

Kira is also another 5.7mil but it may be worth it to have him to start the season for injuries, development, more trade potential.

I say trade Kira and use the money to add C depth.
