Topic inspired by this Christian Clark tweet. LINK

Zion averages 3.8 defensive rebounds per game. List of GUARDS who average more:

Brandon Podziemski - 3.9
Coby White - 4.1
Max Strus - 4.2
Russell Westbrook - 4.2
Dejounte Murray - 4.3
Donovan Mitchell - 4.5
James Harden - 4.5
Josh Giddey - 4.8
Luka - 7.8

Funny that Luka can manage almost 8 per game when he can barely jump and carries a larger offensive burden than Zion.

But yes, that's a good one. Zion simply refuses to try to rebound.

Something I really don't understand that would help some is Val and the other bigs like Larry letting Zion grab the board and letting him run. Lots of other teams defer to their star wing/big do this so they can set the offense up, it can get you into sets 2 seconds quicker, I just don't get it.

Not saying it'll fix the problem, but it would help

He's a scorer, who can really only score in one way. Oh yeah he also doesnt play defense or rebound.

Franchise player right here lol

McNamara tweets about it often and that’s honestly when I started to notice how pathetic of a stat it was. And it totally matches the eye test.

Zion's minutes per game average.

Our supposed superstar is playing 6th man minutes because he can't get in shape.

Shel311 = Mac?

But seriously, we saw just yesterday multiple examples of Mac reading the boards and seeing posts almost immediately after they were made, so it would make sense that Mac is just stealing my thunder as well all the times i've posted it on here lol.

That's the single stat for me too, above any other.

Its crazy he hasn’t played above 35 minutes this season and is averaging only 30- the lowest since his rookie year. We can blame his conditioning but is there some kind of mandate by the training staff here we don’t know about??

The only non-rookie “star” that’s close to Zion in MPG is Jamal Murray at 31.6. Zion is at 30.3.

He’s a damn fatass.

Pels have been playing without a PF all year. Zion’s a backcourt player, and that’s ok, Pels just need to adjust to the fact that Zion penciled in as PF is in name only.

4 Guard, 1 post lineup.

I mean I agree but Lebron, who is 39, averages 7.4 rebounds as a point forward. I still think Zion is talented but this season his minutes and rebound numbers are drastically down.

Imagine telling Pistol44 in the lead up to the 2019 draft that Zion would be averaging less than 4 DREB in his 5th year with the team.

This isn't a meaningful issue. Zion is too busy trying to leak out, so he's not there for them to "let" him grab the rebound.

That's what he wants to be, but he's not capable of guarding 1-3, so he can't be that.

We call it a "scavenger rebounder" problem. You have a player that goes out of his way to "pad" his rebound #s...even to the point of fighting his own teammates for uncontested rebounds. The problem is...your scavenger is the absolute last player you would prefer to grab the rebound. It just slows everything down...bottom line...preferred rebounder = Josh Hart and unpreferred rebounder = JV.

Now...replace Josh Hart with Dyson Daniels (or even Herb)...and you suddenly find the Pels playing at a much faster pace. More transition game. So...JV...get outta the way on uncontested rebounds & let DD & Herb "grab it & go".

JV has fairly obvious reasons for needing to be a "scavenger rebounder"...folks, everybody wants to feel needed & inflate his #s whenever possible...but you can spot a scavenger a mile away.

The Real Pistol44 ... RIP, would be averaging 12 assists per game and had Big Husky in shape running the court.

I want 5 scavenger rebounders on the floor. Zion needs to learn to be a rebounder, then maybe he can become a scavenger rebounder.

I also think it's kind of silly to expect your center to let other people rebound the ball. He's looking up at the shot and the rim, not who is boxing out around him. If he stops "scavenge rebounding," you absolutely will give up more offensive rebounds. So, you get less quick break out opportunities, but also give up more second-chance points, which are often easier attempts as the defense resets.

I’m not taking up for Big Z but is his job to break down the court for a fast break when the ball is put up?
