oet hope we don’t extend him this summer
agreed.

I like him but signing him leaves very little minutes for Jaxson Hayes in 2-3 years.

I don't get why everyone wants to just dump the guy with the 2nd highest +/- on the team, and that when he's on the court you can SEE how much better they are

1. He's a free agent this offseason

2. He has value, so if we lose him, we get nothing for him

3. We can resign him, but that would then limit the # of minutes available pretty drastically for Jaxson Hayes for the next 2-3 seasons

I like the guy, but given the above, it made sense to try and move him IMO.

Because he's a FA and its unclear where he fits into the team's future plans.

There will only be about 18-20 minutes a game going forward at Center in the next few years, assuming Zion continues to play some smallball Center and Jaxson progresses and gets minutes.

You aren't paying a guy a lot of money for that.

On the flipside, we have his bird rights, and no one worth a shite will have cap space this offseason, so its possible we could get him on a short term, bargain deal.

I think it just means we're going to slightly overpay to keep him 3 more years and trade him as an expiring. I think hayes is going to need that amount of time to develop.

And I say slightly overpay because we're still the Pels lol

uh, that would be a pretty good deal, especially if there's an option of some kind after year 1 so he can hit FA in a much better market.

I was worried he would get 15-20 per which would be way too much going forward for us.

I'm not a cap guy, but I would think giving Favors a 1+1 with an overpay is something that would benefit both sides

1) With cap space drying up quickly, we will be in the best position to sign him with bird rights.

2) If we lose him, we lose him. Look at what Detroit got for Drummond, this was a penny pincher market, we wouldn't have gotten anything/anyone of significance

3) The more Hayes has played this season the worse he has looked. He is still raw as frick, it will likely take more than 3 seasons for him to reach his potential, and we can't just insert him and let him learn on the fly while making so many mistakes it continues to cost us games.

Does keeping favors mean that we'll have to trade Jrue with BI's max coming up?

Yup. This is when the buyout market starts to pop up. We will see if anyone interesting gets bought out.

pels dont have open roster spots.
they can cut okafor/jackson/williams and create three spots, and can take back up to 3.625MM back (the miller DPE) plus minimums

I think we will be able to get Favors for a good deal this offseason given so many teams won't have cap space.
I think you're going to see a lot of guys with PO that you assumed would opt out, either opt out and resign with their current team or continue to play under the 1 year option so they can hit FA the next summer.

I mean where's the market for Favors going to come this off-season? Very few teams have cap space and the ones that do aren't potential contenders looking to add a guy like Favors. I just don't see which team is going to drive our price up to where we would need to overpay.

And if another team wants to get him in a S&T then great, we still recoup assets.

as much as we all love NAW & Hayes, there is a significant gap between where they are now, & where they need to be to contribute at a consistent level on a good team

obviously we don't want to stunt either of those guys' growth, but I doubt either are ready to play big minutes next season

I don’t necessarily want to dump him, but I’m also tired of some fans acting like he’s something special. His +/- is high because our front court depth was awful.

I’m kind of tired of hearing how much better the team is with him when it’s obvious the more he plays, it’s really not that he’s all that good, it’s how bad the other options were especially without Zion.

No

We can keep Jrue, max BI, re-sign Moore to about 10 mil, and give Favors in the neighborhood of 15 mil and still be right under the tax

If you can bring back Favors on a decent deal, which is very possible with the limited cap space around the league this summer, you DEFINITELY do it. It's not about the fit that Favors is or the minutes he takes from Jaxson, it's the value that Favors would be viewed around the league as a good player on a good contract. That's an asset you want to have moving forward as a means to bring in quality players that fit better than Favors.

At this point resigning Favors would be disastrous. Zion, Hayes, and a quality back up like Baynes should be the target.

I’m good with Zion, Hayes, a stretch 4, and a cheap vet next year.
