Look at how few teams have cap space, and how few teams will be in a position to make deals.
This is a shite FA class and no one will be spending big money. Maybe someone will give him a one year overpay, but I think you are severely overestimating his market.
This is a weird offseason. There will be more sign and trades than usual, and way more 1+1s.

Yea. A lot of things sounded great prior to the season. Especially coming from Griffin’s mouth.
Posted on 2/6/20 at 2:45 pm to supe12sta12z
And what have they not done that Griff has said would get done?
Jrue not handling the pressure of leading a team? It happens
We are still fighting for a playoff spot even with the rash of injuries we had in the beginning
We still have a treasure trove of assets and what looks like 2 future superstars, maybe both top 5 players in the league
What the frick else do you want?

He told Favors how great his offensive potential was and how we were going to bring that out.. that didn’t happen. Griffin pretty much sold it like he sold MVP Jrue.
And now that Melli is showing that a stretch big is much more beneficial for Zion, bringing back a big who occupies the same space for big money is asinine. Favors with Zion isn’t a great pairing.

Just a reminder from the SI feature on Griff over the summer...
Instead of chasing ping pong balls, they expect to battle despite the West’s stingy field. Griffin warns New Orleans will play buyer at the trade deadline if the playoffs are within his grasp. “People are gonna be like, ‘What the f--- are they doing?’” he says. “We’re trying to win basketball games!”

Is he the perfect fit?
Not at all. I still think the perfect fit is Turner, Indiana just is not willing to part with him. Griff tried to get Turner in the offseason, it didn't happen.
Also, all he said about Favors was that he feels like there is some untapped potential on the offensive end for him and that he thinks they can bring that out.
Favors has had some good games on the offensive side, but nobody expected BI to have the kind of season he's having, which took some looks away from others

Ok, and just who the hell did you want?
Griff can't just call up another team and demand a player, other teams have to agree to a deal.
And as you could see, players that would have been beneficial to us, teams were asking for a stupid high return. You don't make a trade just for the sake of saying you made one

I don't mind bringing Favors back for 1 year.
I think we absolutely need a guy like Favors to play the 5 against Jokic, Gobert, Nurkik, Adams, etc. it's not that I think Zion can't guard them effectively as he becomes more mature and adapts to the NBA game, it's that i don't want him to for all 30+ minutes. When you play those teams, that's when you want a minimum contract or MLE 5 that can hold his own defensively against those guys for 12-15 minutes. They don't need to play when you play the Rockets or Mavs or Clippers, etc.
That would be my argument to sign Favors, and also to not sign him. I dont want to spend $10+M a year for multiple years on a guy that i want to play 15 minutes a night at best, and can't help spread the floor b/c he's not a shooter. If Favors could shoot, then i'd want to keep him. If i'm goign to pay a 5 that much money, he better be able to help spread the floor. If he's just hear for defense, then MLE money at best, and i'd prefer closer to the minimum.
That money would be better spent on a better stretch 4/5 to play with Zion. Melli has looked good as of late, but i would love to upgrade him.
Keep Melli, but also get a guy that is better than him that can fill the same role like Meyers Leonard, or Gallo or Marcus Morris, keep Jaxson obviously, and then get a defensive 5 with the MLE or minimum contract. Guys like Milsap, Ibaka, Biyomba, Tristan, Plumlee, Olynyk, Henson, Harrell, Baynes, Patterson, O'Quinn, Noel, although some of those guys may want more than the MLE, while some are closer to minimum contract guys.
That's what i'd like to see with our 5 big men for next year.
It really sucks we kept Okafor over Wood. he'd be a really nice 5 for us.
And also, the most important move we make in the offseason is the new coach i hope we hire.

Again, Jaxson isn't ready, so if its a short term, reasonable deal then it is completely fine.
If we sign him for 4 years 80 million, yeah, that is an issue.
Even 3 years is a bit too much for me.
2 years, and that's fine. Give Jaxson another development year next season, then use 2022 to really get a feel for seeing if Jaxson is ready for 25+ minutes a night, and if he is, you have an attractive asset in an expiring Favors contract.

What expected leap?

Jaxson has not looked good lately. He's hitting that rookie wall big time, IMO.
but I think that has something to do with Zion's return and his reduced role.
For example, in the 7 games before Zion returned Hayes averaged 21 minutes per game and 13 and 7 on 79% shooting. He was averaging 12.9ppg on 6 shots which is just absurdly efficient.
He has looked MUCH worse in the 7 games since Zion returned, but is also averaging 10 mpg.

Yeah he will have a positive leap, but not from unplayable to starter.
Everyone forgets we are talking about a 19 year old that only has 4 years of experience playing basketball, and he's in the NBA.
When Griff said he is raw, he means RAW. Hayes will take a few years to develop and probablywon'thit his ceiling until his late 20's , and some fans will call him a bust because of it.
At the end of the day, yes playing him will speed it up some, but also playing him will cost us games, so it puts us in a pickle.
The original plan for him was to send him to the G-League and let him play there until injuries messed that up

1. This was before Zion was injured, correct? I'm guessing he didn't expect a Zion injury and 7-22 start
2. We're 6 games back. Doesn't mean we can't be buyers, but there's no reason to swing for the fences and take a big risk and give up assets when the odds of us making the postseason are slim
3. Not making a move does not mean we were not buyers. We could have been looking to acquire pieces but none of the deals fit so we stood pat, which is fine given our situation

I'm certainly not stating he should be a 30mpg guy in year 2, but I think it could be reasonably expected he can continue giving you 20+ mpg in year 2, mainly divvying up his minutes on a matchup basis.

It’s a big world out there, you’re saying there was no deal to be made that could help us? If Golden State is looking to deal Robinson and Burks for second rounders, we’ve got lots of those. Teams are looking for expiring contracts and we can’t deal Miller for anything useful? Or go the other way. You’ve got 3 vets who could help any contender vie for a title and you opt for the status quo? Griff promised to be bold and aggressive. Get creative. Be restless! Memphis and Minny sure didn’t sit on their hands....

Apparently not.
Robinson and Burks were moved for cap space.
1) We don't have open roster spots
2) we didnt really have space.
The Warriors didn't want to take anything back.

Memphis arguably got worse while taking on long term money.
They took back a guy that's a horrible role model for their young guys, and another one that hasn't shown the ability to stay healthy, while sending out 2 guys who were giving them good minutes.
Now, Winslow gets healthy, then yes they are better, but the question is if he can get healthy and if he can stay healthy.
Minnesota made a lateral move, traded an offensive guy that doesn't play defense for an offensive guy that doesn't play defense, he's just great friends with KAT so they're attempting to keep KAT happy.
Yes we have vets that would help a team make a finals run, but that's a sellers move. Miller and 2nds would have been the most Griff was willing to send out unless Turner became available, or maybe Washington wasnt asking for 25 1st rounders for Bertans.
In the end, teams were likely just asking for way too much for any realistic players we could/would target, it happens.
I prefer passing up on a deal we feel would be an overpay, rather than making a deal simply to make a deal

I think we will see a higher number of trades and sign and trades this offseason than usual.

he was not a starter in college.
Td posters routinely note skills hayes lacks.
Im appalled at the idea of it taking years to learn the game.
All this about when hes 28 he'll be amazing disgusts me.
Theres no reason to believe hes on the pels when he finally learns the parts he needs to.
He can sign with the lakers agent. He can marry a girl from Chicago.
Hell be a fa before hes the man you hope he becomes.
At least ship him to erie so he can.play 30 minutes and be expected to work on whatever he needs to work on.
