By keeping Reke on the bench to start the game you spread our talent throughout more of the game. Like during the 2nd quarter when most other starters are on the bench. The 2nd quarter will be penetration domination time between him and Austin. Plus throw in 3pt sniper Anthony Morrow and Ryan Anderson into the fold? Things should get real interesting.

Yep. The second unit is arguably better defined than the first unit in terms of offensive identity. You've got Evans and Rivers running the pick-and-roll or just outright driving to the basket, Smith in the paint and Morrow and Anderson sniping from the perimeter.

I love how everybody keeps naming random 6th men of the year to try to justify this argument. Its not that those guys are special or just fit a specific role on a team, but that you can take any decent starter and put him on the bench, then he'll wreck shop (meaning the team will win more). That just doesn't happen. All you do is clutter a position and cut minutes of better players.

Evans off the bench is not cluttering a position or cutting minutes of a better player. As a 6th man he would have a specific role on this team that makes sense given his talents and the other players on the roster. It also allows Monty to have at least one of Holiday/Gordon/Evans on the floor all 48 minutes. That is a very, very good thing.

Evans is not a Jason Terry type player at all. He does have some similarities to Manu (to be clear, Evans is not as good as Manu was) and I imagine his role as 6th man will resemble what younger, healthier Manu was doing for the Spurs: be the primary option to create offense for himself and teammates. I suspect he will be very good in this role. The hard part will be integrating with both Gordon/Holiday on the floor.

If you can't start them (cause this unit is too soft), then how can you finish a game with them?

I don't think that is why no one believes this unit will not start, but rather that bringing Evans/Anderson off the bench is a smarter application of the players they have, like TigerinATL explained in his post.

The team's actions seem to indicate they are at least going to give the Anderson/Davis pairing an honest try. It could easily blow up in their faces. But if they think Anderson/Davis won't work, why would they not make a move for Asik?

The end of the game is more physical and all those other issues (like sharing possessions) are even more critical. I don't get it..

The hope, and this could also blow up in their faces, is that these guys can put aside ego and play together to make it work on both offense and defense. To me, this is a bigger question mark than Anderson/Davis.

He thinks creatively. He believes Ryan Andseron should be our small forward.

The whole "crunch time lineup" shite is stupid, though.

Look I get it and I've stayed off here mostly cause I just don't agree with what the team did this off season. I don't want to come off as a troll or that I'm not rooting for the team. But the teams 3rd and 4th highest paid players don't start. Almost half the payroll goes to guys coming off the bench. Most teams do not do it this way. No one leaves themselves this weak at multiple positions (SF, C), just to say they have depth at others (SG, PF). Now the team is stuck. It is capped out the next two seasons and has really no way to improve other than hope the current guys get a lot better. I just don't have a lot of faith..

We're not stuck. There's not a lot of room to add someone, but there wasn't going to be. We've got a few really good pieces we can move though, so if it doesn't work out, we have options.

Who can you move? Davis is off limits (I hope), Evans and Gordon wouldn't bring much back (contracts scare people off), Rivers and Aminu don't have much value yet. So that leaves Holiday and Anderson, who I hope they hold onto. Those 7 players are like 90% of the cap and they are all locked in for the next 2 seasons. Anything else added will be minimum level guys..
