I agree they will have to break the bank on a move like this. I just don't think Gay is the guy to go all in with.

If they miss on this move, its the capped out, 6-8 seed CP3 Hornets all over again.

No idea. But someone is always available. Who thought DWill was getting moved? Or for that matter, who saw Perkins being dealt before the playoffs?

1.) Can we have Oak and Gay's contract and still sign Gordon?

2.) I think what some people miss is that by the time Davis' big contract is coming up, Gay's contract will be an asset as an expiring. We can trade him for another player if he's not playing at a high level, sign him for less if he's willing or not sign him at all.

Yeah, and I'm pretty sure we have to send them back some salary (Ariza most likely, maybe JJ though I hope not).

Gordon? Davis? And while they're not great players, JJ and Okafor are pretty damn solid, plus we've got a pretty good bench except for at the 2. It's far from all in on Gay.

we would be atleast as good as the clippers an they were a 5 seed

How? I mean we would be better, but who is the top 3 MVP candidate on the team? Is Davis going to be 1st team all NBA as a rookie? Can we maybe let Davis get his feet wet before we start piling up all these expectations on him? I don't think you realize how loaded the Clippers were this past season either. To expect Davis to be as good as Griffin or Gordon to be a good as Paul is just not realistic.

All that said, I'm not down with getting Gay. He is paid to be a franchise player and this is Davis' team now. Gordon will be his main complimentary player and we will start filling positions around them. Grabbing Rudy Gay won't put us any further ahead and the fact that Memphis (one of our main rivals) would dump him so cheap should be warning enough.

1) Bird rights on Gordon allow the team to go over the cap to resign him.

2) Fair enough but I doubt an expiring sub par 30 year old Gay gets much back.

I wouldn't be upset w/ the move, but I just don't think Gay gets this team over the hump.

And Gay would be great for the Hornets, even with the contract. If they somehow got Gay then all this playoff talk for next year would be warranted.

Okafor
Davis
Gay
Gordon
Jack

That's a damn good starting 5 and would allow the other guys (Smith, Ayon, Aminu, Henry, Vazquez) to develop coming off the bench.

I'm also in the minority and dont mind Okafor as our center. I think he has a reemergence this coming year.

You saying it doesn't make it true. His horrendous contract is the biggest reason why they are dumping him. Otherwise they would expect equal talent in return.

Rudy would be a sweet pickup if we can get him without a crippling contract

$16,460,532
$17,888,932
$19,317,326

He will have arguably the worst contract in the NBA in year 3.

ETA, at that point it will be one of the 5 worst. Kobe's deal and the Knicks kind of stand alone.

Because even if you could get people to agree that we wanted Rudy Gay, we probably won't be making the best offer for him. Presumably the best asset in a package we'd trade for Gay would be the #10 pick, Toronto and Golden State are both interested in Gay and have the 7 and 8 picks and even Charlotte has shown interest in Gay and moving the 2nd pick. I've also seen speculation about reuniting the Gasol brothers by moving Gay. And those issues are on top of whether or not the new owner of the team is interested in moving Gay. They just got bought by a Billionaire so maybe he's more willing to become a tax team unlike Heisley.

It doesn't matter what we want or think, and that is quite fortunate.
