I've played basketball and watched basketball for a long time and one thing I know for sure is you don't put five nonshooters on the floor. If we still had AD and didn't get Zion this would be a great pick

Y'all comparing this guy to Giannis and AD when y'all should be comparing him to diallo without a mid range jump shot and not as good of a rebounder

He’s a good pick. Anyone mad about it doesn’t understand what we’re doing with him

I liked the pick. I think he will turn into a really solid player. He needs work on his offense but hes a great long rim protector and has a frame that can put on some good size.

Yep. It's such a shame that our front office wasted this whole offseason and $30 million in cap space and didn't sign anyone in free agency who could shoot the basketball.

Diallo could barely dunk at 6’9. We got the 2 best finishers and lob threats in the draft with a top 5 passer at pg

I heard a rumor that Trajan Langdon played basketball and watched it for a long time, too. Huge if true.

He's bigger and considerably more coordinated than Diallo. Watch him switch onto guards ont he perimeter. HE has awesome footwork and moves his hips amazingly for a 7 footer. He can also handle the ball while Diallo can dribble 1 time and then he loses it.

Hayes is raw as can be, but he has big upside as a DPOY type player who can protect the rim and switch. He will develop a mid range game and eventually a corner 3 with his mechanics and touch. He's just 2-3 years away from putting those skills together. I think his rebounding will improve as he develops his body. His passing is a question mark because he rarely passed.

Hayes isn't my favorite pick, but you cannot watch him move and not see the potential upside there. The coordination and agility at that size is unque.

His football background will pay dividends with regards to footwork, coordination, and hands.

Yeah, right now, Hayes just doesn't have the strength. Hayes is as much of a Nelson project as a Gentry project.

Hayes is such a raw talent. But he's got the skills to be a prototypical center in this league. First off he's a top flight defender & rim protector. He can run the floor. He's finishes incredible well around the rim & has good form on his shot

not to mention, he's a high character/culture setting kid

the Hayes pick wasn't about competing next year. but seeing how he and Zion could fit together. If Zion improves his shot, Hayes can play more in the post. If not, Hayes can learn to shoot from 3 because of that form he has.

Langdon and the Nets took another rim-running, defensive minded Texas center in Jarrett Allen. They have developed him and in 2 years, Allen is starting to take 3-pointers in the game. He's [Allen] no where consistent but he's being developed as a stretch big. And Allen was not close to as talented as Hayes coming out of college.

What's stopping Hayes from filling a DeAndre Jordan role, other than body mass?

Not like Anthony Davis at all. This is a thing with Calipari specifically. He famously did this with KAT. If he has a center who can shoot, he makes them not shoot to work on other things for the NBA.

Also, AD was a guard before his growth spurt. Hayes was a football player who sucked at basketball and only got recognized cause he was tall and athletic.

This isn't a response to you, I don't know how to reply without linking to somebody.

Did none of you hating on the Hayes pick watch Griffin's press conference last night?? He wants to build towards Alvin Gentry's system that worked in PHX and take high character players to put around Zion. He must've seen something in Hayes that isn't obvious to us. You buffoons hating on this don't realize that we have an amazing scouting department and a genius GM in Griffin who knows how to build a team the right way. Don't forget he picked Stoudemire and some of those other good players. Stoudemire was a 9th pick and Hayes was an 8th pick. I think they see something in his game that they can work with and since he's so raw they can mold him into the player they want him to be.

Why do you just assume he'll never turn into a shooter?

and i agree, i do'nt want to put a bunch of non shooters around Zion, which is why i dont want Lonzo ball on this team unless he learns how to knock down an open 3 at a higher rate, which i don't think he'll do, but looks like we are going to give it a shot.

I do'nt have a problem with Jrue and Ingram taking open 3's, and i know both of them can fake the 3 and get their own shot closer to the rim or create for others.
and i have confidence that Hayes will develop at worst, a reliable mid range jump shot to go with his rim running.

A big doesn't have to be an elite shooter to spread the floor. Capela spreads the floor for Houston by setting good picks, which is something very underrated a good 5 does, and roles and finishes at the rim. Hayes will be able to do that at a minimum, and if he develops a pick and pop game too, and has the bball iq to know when to roll and when to pop eventually, which will take some time, he will without a doubt be a floor spacing big for us without ever shooting a three.
Tyson Chandler developed this. Won a championship and made a shite ton of money b/c of it. Dirk was kicking out to Kidd and Terry for 3's. Marion wasn't any good from 3 and Chandler never shot them, and they won a championship. You don't need four 40% 3 point shooters to win.

Hayes doesn't rebound as well as DeAndre Jordan and he's obviously a LOT smaller. Jordan also have never been the most athletic one on the court.

Hayes on the other hand is more athletic and has way better shooting mechanics. DeAndre shot 38% from the FT line his first season while Hayes shot 74% from the line his freshman season at Texas

Holy shite! The guy is a huge project and now you have him as a DPOY who can switch, block shots, and knock down jumpers and corner 3’s? If he turns into the greatest, most perfect modern 5 the NBA has ever seen, I will admit I was wrong about his fit on the Pels.
