While Lance would be an obviously upgrade it all boils down to if he can compliment AD, Tyreke, and Jrue (but mainly AD) - I think those three are our core bc they compliment each other so well
So let's check out what we need and what Lances skills are:
1) Perimeter defense is something we need: Check for Stephenson
2) We need someone that can score without being ball dominant (since Tyreke is so ball dominant): check for Stephenson
3) We need someone that can hit an open shot: Stephenson is not a lights out shooter but he is a big upgrade over what we have currently - check for Stephenson
4) Continuing with the them of 'young vets': check for Stephenson
The big negatives are what has already been discussed: his attitude, big money locked up in another young star, and the fit alongside the current roster (on and off the court)
Of course EG would have to be gone for this to happen

Evans and Holiday have barely even played together. We have no idea if that trio compliments each other.
Evans stood out down the stretch with an injured Holiday and Anderson. Anderson was chucking the ball 16 times a game before his injury and Jrue was shooting 13 times. Evans went from shooting 11 times a game to 15 once those guys were injured.
Basically what I'm saying in, anything we may think we know about how this team will play together can be thrown out the window. Evans full potential won't be reached while playing the majority of his minutes with other ball dominate players. He's destined to head up the 2nd unit.
This team is all about Davis and putting pieces around him. We need guys who compliment him.

Gordon is the one that'll be on the 2nd unit(whether he likes it or not) or gone.

Evans blew up once he finally was made a starter, though. He may just be more comfortable in that role. Reke is definitely a better option running the second team than Gordon, but I think I would start Jrue/Reke and stagger their minutes so that at least one of them is on the court for ~42 minutes per game. Maybe sub Gordon in for Evans after about 6 minutes and let Reke replace Jrue after the first quarter.
And Jrue/Reke seem to be able to compliment each other's skill sets pretty well since Jrue is very capable off the ball. IIRC they had GREAT numbers together in the fairly limited time they shared the court.

Now this was in the context of saying he wasn't a SF, but Monty said Tyreke was a SG. I think the problem with going after Stephenson isn't Stephenson himself, but moving both Gordon and Tyreke at the same time is some complicated maneuvering.

The Holiday/Evans works stuff is a little hyperbolic.
Just looking at their two man numbers is deceiving because the bulk of those minutes came as part of the best 5 with Gordon on the floor.
Holiday and Evans played 172 minutes together w/o Gordon in the lineup. The team numbers are very good (1.17 PPP v 1.02 OPPP), so there is reason for optimism. But Evans put up atrocious numbers in that stretch (eFG 32%, TS 40%, a decent 23% AST).
Gyno is right. I'm just not sure how anyone can definitively claim it works (or doesn't) based on only 172 minutes (that's less than 1/3 of the minutes Anthony Bennett played this season)
The best we can hope for is that Monty realized Evans needs the ball in his hands when he's in the game and that Holiday isn't Paul or even Vasquez as a half court creator running PnR.

I think Evans great play coincided with finally being healthy as well as being called on to be the main facilitator on offense. I also think he could replicate that role the best leading our 2nd team (as well as taking advantage of other 2nd team defenders). I'm kinda liking the idea of a hopefully improved rivers and Anderson coming off the bench and meshing as a unit
I think you need Gordon's 3P ability on that 1st team, especially depending on who we get to play the 3. If we can get a smooth do it all 3 then maybe Evans could start, but I still don't see it

Be careful, Gyno. Somebody may think you're advocating for Gordon.
I actually agree. With Jrue back, I think you get the most out of your roster with Tyreke running the second team. I just hope he'll buy into it. There were some indications this year that he was resisting.

The problem with Tyreke not starting was the lack of minutes when Monty was still trying to break him/learn to trust him. He was starting to do pretty well in a bench role in the limited time that the Finishing Five were healthy.
