At Saints training camp today, Pelicans forward Zion Williamson could be seen running sprints, monitored by a couple of training staffers, on an outdoor field that wasn't being used for football activities.

I'm pretty certain it doesn't count unless he posts about it on his Instagram.

I wonder if it’s training or do they finally have some sort of off-season conditioning check ins

lah dee fricking dah
We saw him doing sprints last year up a hill or some shite and he still came in woefully out of shape.

That big bitch better be ready to play in game 1. I dont' want to see him huffing and puffing trying to catch his breath when everyone else in the league is barely breaking a sweat.

What are you even talking about? He lost a ton of weight last year before the season began

I'm always glad to hear he's doing something training related. Is there video?

i didn't say he didn't lose weight.
He was still out of shape, you know, actually running up and down the court without passing out. It took him about 3-4 weeks of playing games before he didn't look like he was about to die out there.
4 minutes into a game and someone's shooting free throws and everyone is just standing normal while Zion has his hands on his knees and can barely catch his breath.

He hadn't played a professional game in 500 days bro. There's no type of working out that gets you ready for that stuff. Once he got into nba game shape he was a top 4 player in the league. Give him some slack.

Kind of disagree. During timeouts he was 100% breathing harder than everyone else so obviously he wasn't in the shape you'd like, but I'd disagree that it showed on the court that much. While he was out there, he was getting after it and his condition didn't seem to slow him down.

He started the season a bit slow though. I think he was averaging 31mpg and "only" 23ppg on "only" 56% from the field that first month.

Maybe he wasn't in the best shape he could be in, but part of that is also probably being off an entire year and just getting back into it. I remember he missed a shite ton, by Zion standards, of those easy touch layups that are usually money, and I always assumed that was just due to getting back into the flow of the game. And after that 1st month, he was back to Zion.

that's all i was saying.
it was obvious he was a bit out of shape, and it was obvious a few weeks later that he was at 100%.

I'm also not a big fan of the excuse, "well he hadn't played a game in 500 days". It has more to do with him just being a big dude than the time off. Plenty of guys can have that much time off and come back in shape. It's b/c they are always in shape. Zion isn't always in shape. I'd expect Embiid or Jokic to come back huffing and puffing too after a long injury to the leg. But if you told me they had been a full go to get in shape for the last 4-5 months, then i'd expect them to be in game shape.
Jose has a lower leg injury. I guarantee you when he gets on the court again he's not going to get tired.

If he's sprinting on grass, at the very least that kind of says his hamstring is healed. Which it sure as hell should be by now, but it's really the first confirmation we have of that.

The other point stands about he needs to come in to camp in better shape, but I think you're being too dismissive of this as an offseason news nugget.

Maybe, but they didn't have anything to do with the shape of his face.

Newsflash. It was the same sized uniform. He was 320 pounds in the picture on the left and 285 in the picture on the right. That is the main difference.
