It should have said trading him at that spot. That is my fault. Trading him saves as much as cutting him post June 1st iirc. Not sure why my mind went there for a second.
Also, I did agree that if we could get a 1st for him, then I think it is worth doing. Or maybe a 2nd and a 3rd. Anything less and we shouldn't do it.

This is why we are facing a multiple year rebuild. Its hard to accept, but the Saints can't afford to be chasing wins right now. The team we ultimately compete with will have to include a talent infusion...including replacing some of our best players right now. Olave is another example. He's our best offensive skill player. But, with his injury history, the Saints (IMO) have to move on and replace that talent...and ALSO find more talent around him. We aren't close. We need to keep our head down and keep piling talent onto this roster. And, vets like Cam either need to be cap friendly vets...or we need to hug them and wish them well.

Seems that "multi year" took a 1 year reset to be able to get back to it with a ton of cap space.

Sure if you want to push it all forward again and do gymnastics to create artificial cap space without a settled roster. I’d argue if we’re still having to “make moves” to become compliant this spring then we don’t have true cap space yet, that will be in a year.
Still think it’s extremely prudent to not start running up the card again until we have actual relief and don’t have to push more into the future for compliance. Like 2027.
I see why credit card debt is such an issue in this country for so many

Certainly is leaning that way. Fun times now…not just in the future. I feel bad for the “all things are Loomis” crowd.

Sorry, but which one is it?? Are we moving on from him or finding more talent to put around him? Can’t do both.

It was poorly worded. But, the point I was pretty obviously making was that you don't only have to find additional talent...you have to find that talent AND replace a very talented player that you already have.
So, no, I don't recommend keeping Olave. But, we have to add talent above and beyond replacing him if we are going to truly be a competitor.

Yup. This is the correct answer.

We will be less than a mil over to start (if we don't do the extensions beforehand, otherwise we'll be under), and the biggest misconception people have is they think we need to do the moves because we fricked up.
Instead people need to start grasping that the contracts are intentionally structured in a way to give us THE MOST flexibility possible, giving us players super cheap year one and the option to move money around on their contracts if wanted/"needed" (when in fact most were planned with the restructures in mind).
This way of doing it also has us come out ahead on the per year far more often than not, as players rarely get to the last year with a huge base salary, and those that do have earned it and we just spread it out again, rinse and repeat.
Where some people see a flaw is actually all intentionally designed to allow us to near infinitely maneuver to be able to be flexible and grab the players we want any given year, and we did this easily for 15 straight years despite the constant complaints and people not understanding this simple concept.
We honestly didn't even need to do the soft reset of the cap this past offseason, but because we did we can now have an insane amount of cap space and grab truly any players we would want since we can create upwards of $85 mil without losing a single player under contract.
But I'm sure the posters here know better...

You can continue to preach this and that’s fine. I get you love the Mickey method of pushing money into perpetuity.
But it’s not honest to say that we have had the most flexibility year in and out. If this were true we would not have been settling for downsloping veterans and letting our own guys go as we hit their peak years.
The accounting isn’t a bad tool to have in your book when you have a top 5 qb of all time hiding a lot of the roster flaws it drags up. It’s not even a bad tool to use semi regularly. But we will agree to disagree that it it should be used to the extent our FO uses it.
