If you think my opinion (that was hopeful a basically free player sticks in our wr group) was pessimistic in a thread entitled “how do yall feel about ____player” maybe the softness of pelicans talk is more your speed.

I wouldn’t mind the pick if Chris Bell is available in the 4th somehow (does have the ACL tear). Or package a 4th and 5th? to move up

Not hopeful. Seems like New England’s previous regime over drafted him. The new regime quickly saw that he was lacking, and dumped him to us for minimal compensation.
If he turns out to be good, then that will be great and I’ll be happy to be wrong. In no way would his presence on the team keep me from upgrading the WR this offseason.

No they weren't. He’s on IR. Why cut a rookie contract on Ir. Lmao

Sure sounds like he was on the cut bubble before the injury.
Pop Douglas and Boute were 6th rd picks. Kendrick Bourne was already released before the trade

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel told radio broadcaster Scott Zolak the franchise felt it was best to give Polk a fresh start. Polk was placed on season-ending injured reserve and thus was not eligible to play for the Patriots this season.
Breer’s insights aligned with Vrabel's comments, and also included noteworthy detail.
"This just got to the point where they were hopeful that he would come back in a better place than he had been in 2024, and they still saw a backup player out there on the practice field even before he got hurt," Breer said.
"I think where they feel like they really missed -- this isn't a bad guy, so it's not a personal character thing. I want to make sure I emphasize that," Breer continued. "But the football character wasn't exactly what they thought it would be."
The University of Washington product bragged about having "the best hands in the league" during his rookie season. He finished the year catching 12 of the 33 passes thrown his way for a mere 87 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games. When Polk stepped to the microphone in training camp this summer, he said he didn't learn anything from his rookie season and instead was putting it in the rearview.
"He didn't dig himself out of that hole," Breer said. "They started to view him as more of a backup and then the question became, 'Do we just cut bait now or do we keep chasing a mistake and maybe create a situation where you're not giving other players some opportunity?' And, of course, that issue is exacerbated by the fact that they missed on another receiver in Javon Baker."

We got him for a ham sammich. Gave a 6 for a 7th. So its all good so far

I liked him coming out of college. It’s just a bit curious when the 37th pick in the draft is dumped after a year. We don’t have to pretend it’s not a red flag

Bad year year before, no film from 2025....who knows?

I heard he is a head case

He's something that's for sure lol
You give a 6th and get back a 7th.

If he sticks as the 5th wr
"Pats had very little at WR and traded him" seems like a blatant "he was the worst of the worst" comment. Followed by "if he sticks as a 5th round". Completely ignoring that they have some of the highest TE/ RB passing usage in the NFL along with adding Stefon Diggs.
You said he was the worst WR in a very bad WR room and then doubled down by saying "hopefully he can stick as a 5th WR" which is a bubble roster spot and probably not getting minutes. Hopefully he can make the roster? That's not pessimistic?
In reality he is currently our #3 behind Vele and could end up #2 in production depending on how he's used.
Capping him at a 5th WR ceiling as a 2nd rd pick who only had 33 targets in his career is WILD. Sure he could end up #5 WR and he could also end up #2 or #3. The comment and thought behind it was definitely pessimistic.

I've spent most of my time on Pels talk shitting on those people so thank you for the thoughtless comeback that made no sense. You'd fit in on Pels talk tho. They love people who make pessimistic takes, walk them back, and then make an emotional stabs that's irrelevant to the conversation.

You ok man?
I never said he was the worst at anything. I said the pats don’t have a strong WR group and they let him go. These things are true. Crazy thought but maybe they use the RBs so heavily as compensation for not having the strongest of wr groups, especially when you factor in they have an MVP candidate for QB who can clearly make all the throws.
Not sure why you’ve been so worked up over my initial post compared to the many similar prognostications in a prognosticating thread. But you seem to feel like I personally affronted the guy for some reason even referring to my initial post as shitty before editing it.
But I see you’ve been fired up for 2 days over this. Touch some grass little buddy, he’s not gonna bang you weirdo.

Not only is Polk not our #3 WR his making the 53 is not a sure thing. If he had been a 1st rounder sure but we gave a 6.5 round pick for him.
His stats for the Saints:
0 anything.
Loads of potential though and hopefully whatever was wrong will be fixed.

I forgot that Polk played with an MVP candidate on the team that went 4-13. Polk never played with an MVP candidate which makes these opinions ridiculous. The Pats were a shite show in 2024.

You set his ceiling as our #5 WR when he is currently #3. How do I take that as anything more than pessimistic? If we don't add a big vet then it will be Olave WR1 followed by Vele/ Polk/ Draft #2-4. As of right now he can be anywhere from #2-#4 and a "ceiling of #5WR" sounds like an excessive comment. The pessimism is thinking that Polk ending up #3WR means our WR core is also shite instead of thinking he has potential to be WR3. In your head Polk as #3WR = something going wrong and not Polk playing well.
Again, Vele was a 7th rd pick with 55 targets and most couldn't evaluate him or imagine he would currently be our #2. So I'm going to give the 2nd rd talent with 33 targets a chance.

Who is above him beyond Vele/ Olave?

So comparable to 7th rd talent Vele?

The crazy thing is that most fans couldn't even make this argument or say this nice of a thing about Vele and he's currently our #2. But yet Polk is a lost cause. There was a WR example THIS YEAR that most were wrong about and he's currently our #2. These opinions about Polk make absolutely no sense as of now.
The people who were wrong about the 7th rd WR are going to argue that the 2nd rd WR has a lower ceiling with even less of a sample size. Hahaha. Make it make sense.

Yeah you’re WAY too worked up over this man. Want me to change it to WR4 so you can stop hemorrhaging all over?
I assure you it wasn’t meant as overly pessimistic as opposed to the comparative rarity of these types of situations working out. I think most also expect plenty of incomings as the roster continues to turn over.
I certainly hope I’m wrong but I still thinks if he sticks at all it’s a win given that he was free.
