no we point out the obvious and dont sugar coat and find excuses...and i dont think were just talking about the Tampa game...Im talking about all the games so far this year.. Our tackling and pass rush suck. We've got to get better if we want another title... better LBs big time, Vilma needs help... I think if we get better at DE and LB actually Harper and Jenkins wouldnt be mentioned so much..thats obvious

You don't point out the obvious, you point out a molehill and turn it into a mountain. Tackles were missed all over, but Harper is one of the best tacklers on the D and he's not soft nor afraid to make tackles.

Yep. I'm not disputing that.

Yep, I'm not arguing that either. I wish Shanle would retire or something.

I agree. Although Jenkins is a very solid safety. He and P-Rob were the only 2 people on D that seemed to be ready to play. I don't think it's often Jenkins is mentioned in a bad light. Only bad thing is his big hits are probably good for one PF penalty a game. Personally I don't care about that, I want him to continue to make those hits and punish the opposition. The whole team needs that kind of "swagger".

The defense wasn't at horrible as people made it out to be. Yes it was bad, but when their offense gets 4 extra possessions off turnovers that tends to wear down a defense

Not to mention our back to back to back 3 and outs in the 1st half.

The offense didn't help, but this is a veteran defense. We shouldn't be making these dumb mistakes.

I agree

The D, in the 2nd half, held their own. They weren't going to win the game for the O, but they did enough to get us the win if the O would have stepped up.

every defense in the NFL not named Baltimore or San Fran is making similar mistakes.

I agree with you O Rly.

It is a hard pill to swallow.

People love sayin that Saints fans are just spoiled..

Well is it wrong to expect excellence?
We expect our defense to be better.

I honestly thought that our defense this year ( on paper ) was freakin scary.

I am sick of our underperforming pass rush and cb play.

ARGHHHHHH

I need to breathe. We are still 4-2.
in out in out.

damn i want to just watch one arse kicking this year.
I hate being stressed on sundays...

The present day NFL is putting defenses at a HUGE disadvantage. With the salary cap you cannot be elite everywhere. We are built around offense, as any team hoping to have success in the present league should be. The problem is, our offensive foundation is currently weak with the line play we have. If they would give more time for our wide outs to get separation, and get good push with the running game; our defense, LIKE ANY DEFENSE would play significantly better. To blame our defense who only gave up 26 points (6 in the 2nd half) for this loss when we couldn't run the ball, had several 3 and outs, and turned it over 4 times is asinine.

It's a team effort isn't it? We can't really separate the two. I'm not placing the blame for the lost solely on the defense, I just can't defend their sub-par play any more. We're getting pushed around and making stupid mental mistakes. Roman Harper, one of my favorite players, stops dead in his tracks while Earnest Graham dances past him. It's really simple stuff we're not doing consistently.

We have the talent to be a respectable defense, but we need to be more consistent.

I'm not separating anything. Our offense gave the defense absolutely no help yesterday at all. Our Oline was atrocious in both blocking and protecting Brees for any significant amount of time. We gave them the ball in Saints territory multiple times where our defense held them to relatively few points scored, and we went 3 and out after several tampa bay drives putting their O right back on the field. Our defense isn't great but it made several huge stops in the 2nd half and one stop that was negated by a BS call against Jenkins.

The bottom line is if you're going to build a team around an aggressive, pass happy offense, who takes their shots, you have to do those things well. Besides Brees' brilliance and Sproles/Graham emergence, we aren't doing much well on offense right now.

As I've said several times. It's a lot harder to play defense from behind as you are having to account for the opposing team's entire offensive game plan as opposed to being able to sell out on the pass. In 09 we were jumping on teams quickly allowing more opportunities for our D to get turnovers, pin their ears back and get after the QB. Due to inconsistent O line play/inability for our WRs to get seperation there has been very few of those opportunities in 10 and 11.

Green Bay's Defense has just as many issues as ours does, so does New England. Most people have them as 2 of the top 3 teams in the league. The difference is, they are playing more consistently on offense right now and their Defenses gets to play with a lead more than ours does.

Mediocre defense. Wish we could've attempted to upgrade our linebackers. They couldn't guard simple crossing routes. I don't think our corners or Jenkins played bad at all.

I like and agree with this one. Simply put(slight edit) and explains all of the things that come from it on Def. and off..

Really hope we look at a young coordinator from a team like Pittsburgh or Baltimore that can give our D the modern upgrade it needs.

Williams places no emphasis on the safeties or OLB's. As a result, our D is terrible. Harper was a terrible re-sign, but someone Williams highly touted as needing to retain. Signing a bum like Herring and still playing Shanle is a joke.

Thank goodness Rogers and Franklin got one year deals. They have been non-existent.

That said, we still go probably 12-4.

Agree with that. That was a guy who was shy of contact...which is supposed to be Harper's strength.

When he is up at the LOS diving at ankles instead of making tackles, you really need to reconsider what he is doing for this team.

Yeah, upgrading would totally suck.

You can remain content with the way our defense is playing. Only going to get worse as the season progresses.
