Notice how the officials are off limits and can’t be held responsible by the public? Change that and the league would be wide open!

It’s called a monopoly. TV ratings good, money is good so no change will be made because there is no competition! No pressure to make changes unless the owners do something but they’re making a killing so no one cares...

Louisiana judges were gutless idiots for dismissing that lawsuit without allowing any discovery.

To make needed changes first you need to cut the head off the snake and that’s Roger the dodger Gotohell

Penalties are just being callled for the slightest of infractions. It needs to be for blatant holds, blatant PI, etc.

Flags added a good 35 minutes to the game length. That means more commercials.

So a guy is a lawyer. He gives it up to officiate full time. He gets fired. He just goes back to being a lawyer. I guess it’s that easy.

No different than the WWE, just higher pay for the actors and more at stake financially.

I agree that it’s like WWE in a sense of the league uses refs to try to influence a certain outcome in some games. By that I mean games like today where the nfl doesn’t want one team running away with their division if they can help it.

I do not agree that the players and coaches are in on it. They prepare and try hard to win every game.

Depending on how good he was at being a lawyer, yea it probably is.

Why would you even make that career move to begin with?

If he was really bad at being a ref why would that matter anyway. He gave up a good career to be a ref. Sounds like a personal problem. NFL cant keep guys around based on leaving good jobs. Thats just insane

The nerd in me added up the flags that have been thrown on the Saints so far this year..86 flags..I don't know if that is above average or not.

The problem with counting penalties or penalty yards is it does not take into account context. A false start penalty on first down isn't the same as a defensive hands to the face penalty on 3rd and 26.

3rd and 4th down penalties that killed or extended drives would be an interesting stat to track.

This is the solution. Fine the refs and make them accountable

Another interesting thing to track, though it's subjective and time-consuming to do, would be something along the lines of the ticky-tackiness of the call.

Some penalties are cut and dry, like false starts and offsides (usually). Also, some of the more judgement calls like PI and holding can also be pretty cut and dry, both in obviousness and whether or not it affected the play. You could assign a score to each called (and uncalled!) penalty that I believe would provide strong evidence as to which teams are favored by the league and which are shunned.

Bad calls happen to every team, but to really get to the bottom of it we need evidence of a pattern of shitty calls that is well outside the reasonable expectation of randomness.

Problem is the supposed fining entity (aka the NFL) is making the final calls on some of these penalties. They are dictating the game and why then would they turn around and fine the “puppets” on the field. The NFL has no reason to judge accountability.

I’m not a conspiracy guy, but I was shocked by the PI reversal today. I can make no other conclusion than it is rigged by the refs in New York and not necessarily the ones on the field. But hell, I don’t know. Just shocked.

This is why Goodell gets boo’ed every damn draft

He is straight trash. Complete garbage. Total piece of sheet.

I literally just wanna win super bowl so we can shove the trophy up the refs arse.

A few things

Make them full time
Require full financial background info annually
Police gambling activity or any association to gambling
Enhance technology
Require all officials to submit to drug testing

I’m all for making the officials accountable for their calls, whether that comes in the form of fines or suspensions. But we’re never gonna get to that point until multiple coaches and multiple owners decide to criticize these officials publicly to put pressure on the league to make a change. The problem is, none of them want to eat the fines that come along with that crusade. Nor do they want to incur the repercussions and wrath of the league, aka Roger Goodell, who will most certainly find a covert way to punish those that oppose him.

Ran into a rather well known retired official at a restaurant bar at an away game this year. He wasn’t sober and was fairly talkative and he stated rather emphatically that officiating was at an all time low in the league and the main problem is Alberto Riveron.

Who gives a shite about what they do for a living if they get fired. No one is forcing anyone to be an official so that’s the risk you take and I’m sure there are plenty of people that would happily take that risk. The NFL has more than enough money to make officiating a full time job. The game is so much faster now and these officials should be training all year for this job.

No reason to fix it. Everyone still tunes in and watches the games. Except for a few people that say they boycott the games until the issues are fixed. But that does nothing to the NFL's bottom line.
