Olave is an elite WR deserving of a high contract. Given the concussions and blood clots, I hope someone else gives it to him.

It’s not worth the risk.

Is it the exclusive franchise tag?

If not, than yes he’s a free agent, free to sign with any team in the NFL, and you are still an idiot and wrong.

Guess the argument on who was right about who we shoujd trade for out of Vele and Pickens has shifted to this stupid shite since it’s clear now who was correct…

He’s not a free agent. He’s restricted.

It was never correct to trade for Pickens.

Free agent = free to sign with any team of his choosing

It’s never a good idea to get players for a low cost that end up so good, their team mulls putting the exclusive franchise tag on them as per Chad so other teams can’t poach them.

At worse you could flip them for a first and additional mid picks like other teams have done in the past. That’s the bare minimum going rate for number one receivers, much less all pro receivers….

Seriously doubt we could get our 4th back for Vele right now. But that was the correct choice?

Handcuffed to Dallas. Not free in the least. You already declared him a free agent. Boy that shite was wild.

One thing...the big thing left out is guaranteed money. Per year players don't care much about cause the guaranteed money is where the contract is made. 30 million per for five years is great cause in just three years that will be a good deal. But how much will he ask for guaranteed as I expect it to be huge and I doubt much insurance will be accepted by his reps.

Just look at the top 10 guys and their guaranteed:

JJ - 88.7mil
Chase - 73.9mil
Lamb - 67mil
Metcalf - 60mil
Hill - 54mil (3yr)
Brown - 51mil (3yr)
Ridley - 47mil
Aiyuk - 45mil
McLaurin - 44.6mil (3yr)
Godwin - 44mil (3yr)

He's gonna get north of 40mil

I'm conflicted because of some bad critical plays, but I think we need to pay him. I remember the days, not too long ago, when the Saints had a bunch of street peeps playing WR, and we were ecstatic when the Saints drafted CO.

This misses the real issue.

He's played well enough to be paid.

His injury risks make it a very bad idea to invest in him long term.

correct me if I am wrong but he had no concussion issues in 2025.

maybe a medicine ball QB was the problem?

Chris Olave has suffered multiple concussions, but the most severe one in 2024 occurred on November 3 against the Panthers, when the quarterback was Derek Carr. During that game, Olave was hit in the head/neck area by safety Xavier Woods while attempting to catch a pass from Carr.
Key Concussion Incidents and QBs:
Nov 3, 2024 (Panthers): Derek Carr
Oct 13, 2024 (Buccaneers): Spencer Rattler
Nov 26, 2023 (Falcons): Derek Carr
Oct 9, 2022 (Seahawks): Andy Dalton

While technically correct, you are an idiot if you think anyone will give up a first for him and sign him to a huge contract. The franchise tag effectively kills any chance of a player leaving, and the exclusive tag is only used for the tippy top franchise QBs (like with Brees), where the team doesn't even want to chance someone giving up a first for them. That is literally the only position, and only the top 5 or so, that would ever need the exclusive tag. Even with edge players or top flight tackles teams aren't giving up a first and paying them, so they definitely aren't doing it with a receiver.

He’s had concussion issues since college. He only went concussion free this year because he goes down before contact…..no fighting for extra yards.

I like Olave, but to act like this isn’t a problem is short sighted and naive. He also CAN’T make contested catches (see Miami). I was dead set against an extension for him prior to this past season, but he did move the needle for me a good bit…….BUT this is still a very risky contract.

For a team that is trying to build around a (possible) franchise QB, having that contract go belly up would set this team back tremendously because you are wasting the window that you are not paying the QB much money.

Now you couple the concussion issues with the inability to make contested catches, AND now a blood clot issue……..it’s pretty dicey.

I am not saying that they shouldn’t end up paying him……but the fans acting like it’s a slam dunk to “just pay the man” are fricking retarded lol. This dude is a concussion away from a possible retirement
