Saints signed S Julian Blackmon to a one-year contract extension.

Terms weren’t announced by the team. Blackmon was set to start for the Saints last year before he suffered a season-ending labrum tear in the team’s opening game. Assuming rehab goes fine, he should be in line to start next to Justin Reid at safety next season

I’m hoping Sanker gets a lot of playing time somehow

very nice signing. will be interesting if he's a alontae replacement or a true safety spot.

I sure hope they don't over pay to keep him as a nickel CB, star whatever you want to call it.

I can see Taylor situation being similar to SGJ when he was due to new deal, a nickel CB wanting outside CB money

It's no secret he wants/ wanted cover CB money during negotiations last off season. That's why he had those mysterious practice days missed with an unknown injury.

Mickey was right to push back last off season and should push back even more now that both Kool-Aid and Riley have shown they can lock down the corners and will both only improve with a more sustained pass rush.

According to the AI, Taylor's a solid but not elite versatile CB comparing him to players like Taron Johnson - Bills(3yr/$31M), Kenny Moore - Colts(3yr/$30M) and Jalen Pitre - Texans($3yr/39M).

A realistic deal could look like 3year $36M (12M AAV). Plus incentives to push it to $40M but gives the team an out after 2 years.

There are teams in the market for versatile slot corners who have been linked to Taylor as a possible priority target, Jaguars, Texans and Jets who may have more money to spend than the Saints.

I saw on another site a projection of Taylor's contract to be 3yr/$33M. At first glance seems a little high, especially depending on guaranteed money, but also not outlandish and there's not much options on the market that are CLEARLY better than him for cheaper

Re-signing Blackmon is GREAT! Guy is a good starter at a very affordable rate, hopefully he heals up well.

Sanker started hot then plateaued a little but hopefully he continues to improve into year 2.

Reid is honestly the one that needs to improve from 25 to 26. He's paid well and didn't seem to be a much of a game changer and actually had a few costly bonehead penalties that experienced veterans should not be making

Alonte is the top corner on the market and is under 26. Somebody is going to sign him to a similar deals as Charvarius Ward got last year (3 years, 54 million).

He's not worth that. You can plan on seeing Sanker in Alonte's spot.

This. I am perfectly fine with Blackmon coming back and sliding Sanker to the inside. Sanker is a playmaker and I think he will excel at the star position

He’s only a nickel in nickel. He plays outside in 2 CB sets

Which is honestly fine, someone go ahead and overpay him.

He is a solid star, he's not a great one. He filled the role because he's not great in coverage (108.7 passer rating allowed this year). He's a solid blitzer and tackler for his position (2nd in solo tackles for CB, 2nd in sacks for CB), but he's also missed 11 tackles. We could improve, but I'm not paying him top 15 CB money to hopefully become a top 32 CB.

I'd gamble and try to pry away Jamel Dean.

He’s not an outside CB. The reason he has found a home as a slot CB with outside capabilities is that he gets burned a lot when on the outside in full time duties.

Sanker is the better player.

It would be disappointing if Blackmon was the starter.
