We gave up all that to move up 2 spots?

Well we have two 1st rounders now this year.

Someone on other thread made a great point about trading Payton next year to recoup

Agree. Technically a 2nd and 3rd for extra first this year and 1st next year likely worse than we got extra this year.

Not as bad as people seem to think.

. It doesn’t really matter materially to the people the trade

Saints traded a future 1st, future 2nd, this years 3rd and 7th, for number 16 in this years draft and a 6th round pick

I am questioning this trade quite a lot, but this is pretty disingenuous.

They got another 1st round pick in this draft, you can't just disregard it.

That certainly would help.

They MAY be counting on that a bit, but I really don't think anyone can know that.

“Rationale for the #Saints: This trade gives them three picks in the Top 50 and hopefully that 1 next year is a back-end.

So we gave up a 2nd and a 3rd with the unlikely "hope" that we'll have a top 10 record next season?

Yeesh.

They traded the 19 pick and got the 18 pick back, moving up 1 spot in the draft isn’t much to calculate, I think it just adds to the confusion when you are trying to figure out what’s what

TRADE: Eagles sending picks No. 16, No. 19 and No. 194 in the sixth round to the Saints in exchange for pick No. 18, No. 101 in the third round, No. 237 in the 7th round AND a 2023 first-round pick and 2024 second-round pick, per sources.

Saints now at 16, 19; Eagles at 15, 18.

So we gained extra first in a weak draft class only to lose a first in a potentially stronger draft and lose a second the following year. On it's face I don't like it. I hope they know what they are doing.

That's how I'm looking at it.

We added a pick in the teens of this draft but gave up a 1st in next draft, which will likely be around the same.

Then on top of that, we added a 2nd and a 3rd.

I'm truly confused.

It sounds worse than it is. Draft value wise a 2nd in 2 years is a 3rd so next year's 1st and 2 3rds for a 1st now makes sense. And I'm sure they're expecting to add a compensatory 3rd next draft from what we lost in FA.
Just don't know why they'd do it so far in advance if they're using the picks.

Not both picks

I’d be ok with taking him and a WR or O line

I mean the NFC is dogshit.

I can see them being confident even if I don't agree at all. They did jackshit in FA and got worse in my opinion. Why go bargain basement hunting in FA and then go all in for the draft?

This move would make A TON more sense if Brady had stayed retired. The NFC would be that much worse. But he didn't.

As with anything, it depends on what they do with the picks, who they choose, if it works out, if we are good this year, etc.

However:

1) We got worse this offseason, maybe significantly worse, so it seems strange to make an all in move

Bring in TM7, resign Kwon, and go out and get Hicks and our defense is equal or better than last season.

Use these two picks for WR and OL, and potentially fine a RB in the case AK41 is suspended, and we should be fine on offense. Having MT13 come back is like getting a major free agent signing.

I personally may just be an optimist, but I don't think we got worse. We for sure didn't get drastically better, but we did enough to be more competitive than last year.

Feels like we are going QB if our guy is available at that point. Surely we have to go WR with at least one of those 2 picks.

Idk man.

A 2nd and a 3rd to get a mid 1st this year instead of an unknown draft position next year? Seems like a little too much.

I would've been fine with a 2nd and 5th or something. But a 2nd and 3rd seems like too much. It's a lot better if that pick is late first. But that's a big gamble in and of itself.

I think you are confused.

The Saints traded 18 and moved up two spots to 16. They also acquired 19.

They had to give up 18, a future 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd round pick to move up two spots and acquire a 2nd 1st.

Yeah if that was the case then they should have worked something for the #15 pick. What's keeping the Chargers from trading there.
