Like the other guy said, it comes down to is 16 worth next year's 1st, and also a 2nd and a 3rd.

Or, is moving up two spots and acquiring the 19th pick worth 18, a 3rd, a 2023 1st and 2024 2nd?

Not if you want a starting LT and the fastest guy in the draft.

If we used one for Jordan Davis how long would it take for Sullivan to be brought up, .5 a second?

Why aren't you adding the 6th and 7th when discussing this?

Your answer is the 18 vs 19 logic being presented to you

htran probably said it the easiest earlier.Toss out 18/19 and the late round picks.

The Saints purchased 16 with the rest of the trade. 2022 3rd, 2023 1st, 2024 2nd.

This trade a month before the draft makes absolutely no sense.
Ditto.

This is the kind of trade you make on the day of the draft if your guy is sitting here a few picks before you

This is a head scratcher

That's exactly what is being debated, but Bunchie doesn't think that is correct to do.

I'm not following why but that's the crux of our debate.

That's exactly how I'm looking at it.

At the cost of a 2nd and a 3rd....why?

Maybe they anticipate getting compensatory picks or trading Sean Payton and would rather get new toys now?

Is it the 16 and 18 logic though?

I'm disregarding the 6th and 7th because i see it as not relevant enough to type out every time.

The Saints are moving up two spots in the draft, there is very obvious value in that. They are also acquiring another 1st round pick.

However the question becomes the value of:
2022 3rd rounder
2023 1st rounder
2024 2nd rounder
= 16

The 1sts cancel out

Saints had multiple 3rds this year

The 2024 spreads out the damage.

This move fits the MO of this front office for a while, the credit card charge method. Their focus is always on the immediate present.

Immediate thought of what they want to target

Great lineman draft on both sides.

QB

WR redshirt guy Jameson Williams

Yea, that's been mentioned and maybe that's a legit reason they did it.

But for me personally, I'd hate that reasoning. Not saying I'm right, but I don't think you should value a 3rd you have less just because you know you'll likely get another 3rd later.

For example, we have 16 and 19 now, two 1sts. That doesn't mean we should value one of those picks less just because we have 2 of them, right?

For the love of long gone Gumbo the St Bernard please let's not make this trade be discussed like the "extra 1st for Marcus Davenport" trade for the next 3 or 4 years.

I am taking crazy pills here.

You cannot do this.

The Saints had to give up value to move up from 18 to 16. They then had to give up value to acquire 19.

The whole deal is symbiotic. You can't throw out high value out of it.

I agree.
I don’t see any franchise type QBs coming out of the next two drafts.

But who knows??? Nobody wanted Brady and several QBs were drafted before Dan Marino etc.

So why can't you disregard 18/19 because that difference is similarly not terribly material?

Pick #16 is being accounted for in the logic though.

This doesn’t seem like a great trade for the saints. Giving up a good amount in a weaker draft class. Don’t think it’s terrible but curious who they’re going for. I’d imagine either a QB & WR or OL & WR

Coming in an Eagles fan.

At first I’m annoyed cause say this as a great opportunity to draft defense.

But then I remember Howie is not the greatest at drafting first round and probably would have gone wide receiver.

Hopefully he drafts two good pieces in the first round.

But basically have to cheer against the saints for that other first rounder to turn I to something better. The perk to this trade is the additional second round pick and third round pick. That’s the one positive I take from it. You guys have a good year and we get a lower first rounder. We shall see, good luck to you with the picks!
