Wasn't fleener either way had he been kept or not. At least we have a couple UDFA te's to get a look at.

Making space for Dez?
I'm not sure about that...but what are the reasons for cutting him now?
1. It's not looking good for him medically
2. Saints want to use up that $3 million on a guy
That's all I got.

Watson wanted his number back.

We're going after Julius Thomas

Y'all remember when bonethug used to post Coby Fleener drop rates trying to prove his woes weren't really a problem? Lol, good times.
Everyone knew he was garbage the day he signed. Not only that but his deal was so bad based on the market that year.

Guess they're going to allow Watson to make Lester look like the fool again.

The nickname my friends and I had for Fleener was "FDM" future dead money, I guess now we can officially rename him dead money

to think people like bonethug actually endorsed his contract as team friendly

I remember him going to bat so hard for Fleener. Just post after post after post. "He doesn't really drop that many balls..." or trying to explain how the money we gave him was acceptable when EVERYONE on here hated it. Loser..

To be fair I didn’t hate Fleener as a player. He was a clutch type player, came up big in crucial situations. Saying that, quarters 1-3 he seemed to disappear and usually came through in the 4th Q when we needed him to. I didn’t like the contract either, but I didn’t hate the player.

Fleener was a risky signing, and didn't work out. They were desperate to replace Jimmy/Watson with a younger, more athletic TE.
It didn't work out. By cutting him now, they can save $3 million on this year's cap that goes onto next year's cap as $3.2 million in dead money if designated a post June 1 cut.
If they don't, he actually loses them $200k in salary cap this year.
Depending on his health, though, maybe they feel there is a way to recoup some of the $3.4 million in guaranteed salary.
