The Saints run their finances like the Govt. does, mortgage tomorrow to pay for yesterday.
Curtis isn't the best in coverage, but he plays 3,000 snaps in 3 years, half the time he played hurt when other guys would sit. He ran a 4.6 40 when he entered the league, and was in better shape this past year than any at any point when he was in ATL. He was on the injury list nearly every week, but if he sat the replacement wasn't going to be a good alternative.
If you watch film you'll see him running down players in the secondary after other players took a bad angle and quit. The fact they would even consider a guy who played 7 games in 2 seasons shows how foolish they are.
Watch every defensive snap last year on film give me the stats on how many times you saw each starter quit on a play. This team is loaded with a bunch of soft, lazy players who don't want to put in the work to required to win.
They couldn't afford Lofton but don't think for one second they're going to make an easy upgrade.

Sad to see him go but his time in New Orleans has been a disappointment after the hype coming from the Falcons.
He was solid but didn't create turnovers or do change a game like a legit MLB should be able to do.

i'm not all excited about the Saints going and getting some other journeyman to take his place.
in recent years that's what they've done.
man, that whole defense just got complacent last year it seemed like. I get why they are letting him go but he wasn't the biggest problem last year at all.

It's not whether he was good or not (he was above average against the run but sucked at everything else), it's about value and Lofton has never been worth what he was paid.
Same with Hawthorne, Grubbs, and Bunkley. They aren't garbage but they definitely aren't worth what they make.

Guess the saints will go out and sign some free agent LB to big bucks considering, and they will get hurt in training camp....seems to be the new thing with the saints as of late....

Interesting thing, the bounty year was 2012 and all four guys I mentioned (Grubbs, Bunkley, Hawthorne, and Lofton) were signed that year.
By far our worst FA year under Payton as they were all big money signings and none of them panned out. Maybe it's not too much of a coincidence we've had 2 out of 3 bad years since they were signed.
I can't remember any other big money FA we've whiffed on under Payton. We've missed on several several money guys but I honestly can't think of one other big money guy.

I wonder if Hawthorne was someone Payton wanted or if the admin went out and grabbed him after SP's suspension took place.
March 15th: Grubbs signed
March 21st: Payton's suspension was suppose to start
March 21st: Bunkley signed
March 24th: Lofton signed
April 1st: Payton's suspension starts
April 3rd: Hawthore signed
Also, with all of the bad press; I wonder if some of these guys demanded a larger contract to come to the team knowing the shitstorm that was about to take place.

Possible. It's hard to say but with all of the other good years in FA it seems a bit much of a coincidence that we had that all happen in the same year.

Dear Mr. Lofton,
I was only kidding about you being a traitor and turncoat. Can you still play ILB?

Look mother fricker I don't have anything to prove to you. If you want to believe it then do, if not then don't, I couldn't care less. I was just sharing something I heard.
And by the way I've never even been to SR, heard nothing but negative stuff about that site.

You've handled yourself well.

Williams is my current number two realistic choice (Revis aside). He is more proven than Culliver without the issues. Would fap.

My only thing is his age, I would really rather get someone who could be around for a little longer. He will be 32 in 6 days.
