I guess I'm in the minority unless there is a under the table deal in place a 3rd for a one year rent of a back up QB?
If he doesn't play this year and he's gone afterwards, not worth it. If he is here and prevents us from having to start a now nomadic Flacco type or Tom Savage type post-Drew then probably worth it.

Because he was gonna get traded to another team that would extend him.

I think we all like TB going forward. I just can't imagine the Saints making this deal without knowing something we don't yet is all I'm saying.

Rand I think you're 100% right about the leverage but I think you're wrong about the deal he could command. The deal is determined by leverage AND the market. Hard to imagine any team paying that kind of money for a guy who hasn't played in a year just because he flashed in the PREVIOUS preseason.
But maybe I'm crazy, maybe QBs are so hard to find we get a version of the tulip craze in the offseason.

someone was trading for him and would likely be extending him as well. It's not like we just traded a 3rd rounder for some bum on his way out

This, in essence.
I just consider it an "unsure" situation. We don't know if Brees is retiring after this year. If he isn't then there is NO WAY Teddy will stay here and we just lost a 3. If he is then we're going to have to give Teddy a big contract right off the bat and he will have a ton of leverage. That's it really. I like him a lot as a player.

Get over the obsession with draft picks

1. Spend more time in our system
2. Far better insurance policy then Savage
3. Another team trade for him
4. Another team sign him for more money
Pretty easy to defend the trade

Surely you aren't talking about local media. They can't break a damn egg at the Saints facility.

I just don't understand why people think he's more likely to sign a deal here than go into FA simply because we traded for him.
a clear path to start for a team with a young core in a system that suits your skill set.

Well I hope you're right. Maybe they could just look at something short term for 25ish a year and let him earn the big one.

If you lose him bring on the compensatory pick. Saints are on top of this shite.
Posted on 8/29/18 at 2:30 pm to NOSHAU
Jets wouldn't turn it down and the seahawks wouldn't offer

Are the Saints in a position of rebuild right now?
Posted on 8/29/18 at 2:32 pm to NOSHAU
Yes. That’s what I mean.
Obviously the core every team is built thru the draft, but when you have a chance at getting your future franchise QB, almost no draft pick is untouchable

It’s not the worst thing in the world if you have to overpay for a backup QB for a year.
The dicey thing is if Drew is still performing extremely well past 2019.
But even then, that opens up possibilities. Keep rolling with Drew and flip Teddy for a higher pick. Idk, just thinking out loud.
