I guess I'm in the minority unless there is a under the table deal in place a 3rd for a one year rent of a back up QB?
I think everyone thinks that if he's gone after this year, this isn't a good move.
I also think most people believe the team wouldn't make this move if they only had one year plans for him.

You’re clearly melting here Rand. No team is going to sign Bridgewater to that much money. He doesn’t have as much leverage as you think he does. The FO doesn’t make this move if they aren’t confident that can secure him long term. You telling me he wouldn’t wait one more year behind one of the greatest to ever do it, with a loaded roster, to go quarterback some shite team like the Dolphins who have a bleak future?

I said 2nd OR 3rd you dumbfrick. It went down to how much the Saints valued him because the Jets could have gotten more.
Seahawks offered a 2nd earlier this preseason and the Jets turned it down. Get some sources bro

NFL Network Draft assessment
DRAFT PROJECTION Round 1
BOTTOM LINE A calculated, football-smart, precision-matchup rhythm passer, Bridgewater would be best suited entering a warm-weather or dome environment such as those most common in the South divisions. Would stand to benefit heavily from operating a short, dink-and-dunk rhythm passing game. Compensates for a lack of elite arm talent and prototype measureables with the intangibles and football intelligence that could elevate the other 52 players around him. Instinctive passer with the laser-beam determination to become a Pro Bowl-caliber passer in the right system.

I just want to be clear: I like Teddy as a player and like the idea of him as the future starter. I just don't like the situation we just put ourselves in.

He doesn’t have as much leverage as you think he does.
Let's say Brees retires. Suddenly the Saints have only Teddy pretty much, who is on an expiring contract, having just gave up a 3rd round pick for him. In that situation you HAVE to resign him. That is leverage.

What QB are you going to get in the 3rd round of the draft that gives you more confidence than Bridgewater?

....Brees doesn't retire?
Saints can cut Drew (next offseason)
Would save 12.5 for 2019 cap and add 10.5 to 2020 cap immediately.

Get over the obsession with draft picks

Maybe Brees has announced to the Saints that this is his last year or next year. He'll be 40 in a few months. Father time is undefeated baw.
Bridgewater is only 25 and should have a good 10 years left if his knees hold up. Who wouldn't want to be a qb under Payton?

Yes, football.

Acquiring our future starting QB is a bad situation?

Move makes sense if you assume two things:
1. They think he can be the "future"
2. They think that the team can make a run this year, even without Brees, but with someone who can do more than just manage a game
Significant downside is that he was only on a one year deal, so they are immediately faced with the prospect of signing and extending him and he will have significant leverage given what was traded to get him.
Oh well, #Irelanding

If that is the case (no way to know right now) then I'm Ok with it

I don't disagree with any of this. I just think if brees doesn't retire, we're fricked. If Brees does retire, we're paying a shitton. If we don't pay a shitton, we just lost a 3rd and have no QB and no draft capital.

Why wouldn't you just acquire him in 8 months and keep your 3rd? How are people defending this trade.
Because free will exists.
