Yes the entire second round of the nfl draft held out until the last week or so to get as much guaranteed money as possible because none of them think they can make it in the nfl ….

Amazing insight … can’t wait for some more of your takes

We caved but to be expected Shough had the leverage given he’s the likely starter and the general sense among informed Saints fans how incompetent Loomis is.

Actually, the NFLPA has been pushing for fully guaranteed contracts for 2nd rounders this year, and the players around him in the draft got them, so the one guy most likely to start was going to get it too. Every GM in the league would have done the same thing.

quote:

The fully guarantee means he’s paid in full for the 4 year rookie deal and reduces his trade value to us if we are forced to trade him because he is not starter material.

If he is not starter material, he has no trade value anyway. This is not the NBA.

quote:

As more contracts in the NFL become like MLB and NBA (fully guaranteed) it hurts the small market teams like us more. Overall this is a very disturbing signing.

Also irrelevant. Small market teams like us are unable to do the cash-over-cap method of salary cap management, but fully guaranteed contracts have nothing to do with that. In the long run, everyone spends the same amount of money; the difference is in how hits the books.

He reads the field well, has a strong arm, not afraid to tuck it and run.

Allen is Cam Newton with accuracy.

His arm isn’t anything close to Allen’s.

He also gets very jumpy in the pocket with pressure, similar to Carr. He may be ok with superior protection, but I think his ceiling is Carr. We’d be extremely lucky if that’s the case.

You’re the loser if you can’t see that he will never be Jared Allen, please elaborate on how you think he will be if you’re this great scout.

Also, you need a little work on your reading comprehension, I never said I wanted him to fail or he sucked….But you’re a dumbass if you think he’s will be at Allen’s level… if he is good enough to be our franchise QB so be it. I’m still a saints fan…

Yeah I agree with you that he will never be an elite pass rusher. Brilliant insight!

I'll be satisfied if he's La'roi Glover.

Are you claiming your phone auto corrected Josh to Jared? Just to be clear?

So we reduced Carr's salary by 93%?

Can't really be that dumb. This started with the Texans giving the first ever fully guaranteed contract to the 34th pick, and the 41st pick signed before Shough for 95% guaranteed and the 39th pick for 100%.

So should we have drawn a hard line for 97-98% guaranteed? What's the point?

It was literally an "extra" $540,236 guaranteed, and this was orchestrated by the agents, not the players, to push the guarantees further down the draft.

If it was just him holding out all you crybabies about this would have a point, but it was basically the whole 2nd round doing this, kicked off by the Texans.

Who? This is complete bullshite. Every pick before Shough signed for 100%, and the pick after signed for 95% quickly after others started falling so we would be the ones to be last to hold. We literally were the last to keep up trying to hold the line, but the chickens behind us started falling giving damn near full.

So said to see once middle of the road, more rational posters (well, most of the time) like you fall into this state of chicken little where everything is bad and we can't even have a little optimism without being called face painters around here.

I made my position clear months ago, I didn't want a 2nd round qb because the odds are not great, and if you were that confident in a guy you would take him in the 1st. But I also see the potential for what he can do if he gets coached up well and takes to it. So I'm not expecting greatness, but I hope he can be capable of starting and am willing to be pleasantly surprised if he is great, rather than just calling this an 0-17 team before any snaps are even played.

I’m expecting this 2nd round pick to work out about as well as Foskey.
