Leaving the team to Lauscha or someone else would incur a massive tax bill for the recipient they probably wouldn't be able to pay.

The team will be in a trust, thus avoiding the tax implications. Be patient. It will not be long before the architecture is revealed. It is the closest thing to Green Bay that the NFL would allow. This team isn’t going anywhere.

How quickly you people forget that he is a scumbag who wanted to move the Saints to San Antonio after Katrina and Paul Taglibue refused to let him.

He may have tried to make up for it later in life, but when this city was at its lowest he tried to get out of town.

As far as I know, Gayle has no children to leave the team to and she is not a young lady.

I'll take one for the team and marry her.

and then he kept the team here and we won a superbowl. Were we supposed to cheer for the Cowboys instead?

It's not true. The guy doesn't know how owning shares of something works.

Really? You people can't be that dense. Last year the league approved the plan of Gayle as owner once Benson passed.

The team is not being put in trusts. It's not being sold to the Mannings. Rita has zero claim.

Gayle is now owner with no ifs, and, or buts until she passes or decides to sell.

Sad to hear.

On a football business note, how long before the team moves out of NOLA now??

He wasn't the only New Orleanian to do so. He had a NFL team in a town with 20,000- 30,000 people in it. He handled it poorly but it was a reasonable consideration.

I wonder what Rita did that pissed him off so bad. All you heard was about was how she was heiress to the throne then she was suddenly kicked out the castle. It had to be more than just that she was a raging bitch, right?

Him deciding to keep the Saints here in the end was a big part of what helped this city return to it's former glory.

What??? New Orleans isn’t even close to its former glory, whatever that may have been. It may be better now than in the immediate aftermath of Katrina, but it’s still a dirty, crime ridden hell hole.

I dont think 1 single person has forgotten tge circumstances behind that. Most have just chosen to move on because quite frankly it just doesnt matter anymore.

From someone from Memphis? Regardless, let's stay on topic.

She got too involved in the party atmosphere and lost focus on what he was training her to do. The money and power went to her head.

I’ve heard that a lot of Benson’s generosity was Gayle and that is what the kids were pissed about. Gayle waged an apparently successful PR campaign to rehab Benson’s image. I’m not so sure how much he really knew about the stuff that he gets credit for.

Not happy he died or anything but he’s still the guy that threatened to move the team after Katrina and the guy that demanded tax subsidies and kick backs from the state to keep the Saints. Remembering him as a good or beloved guy is total revisionism.

they (along with her brother) hate Gayle.

they settled in court with Benson a year or 2 ago. Benson essentially bought them out to give Gayle full ownership of team

You’re very wrong. The league knows exactly what is going to happen. The Saints will be as close to a Green Bay situation as the NFL will allow.
