You have an all-time great QB. You ride that horse until he's lame and you have to put him out of his misery.

Would you trade Brees for Kirk Cousins

No.

Only for a King's ransom. I would want something on the level of the Herschel Walker trade.

Cousins would be a perfect fit for Saints. A fantasy QB who's not clutch at all. Will rake it up on stats until it matters.

In all honesty, he's probably the best bet this franchise has as far as the future. Nobody in this draft will do anything in the NFL, Brees is about done and Cousins has put up some nice numbers. Considering all the overpaid QBs out there you'd at least be getting a good one. He's not clutch and you'll probably never win a SB with him but he'll keep the offense at the top in the NFL. Saints would be smart to part ways with Brees and go for the younger Cousins if available. They're not going to get a replacement anytime soon in the draft. Brees is still great but he's definitely not clutch anymore. Very similar to Cousins he's a great fantasy QB but not much more.

Hmmm, but what do you think about the clutch factor?

Something you didn't address

You are basing this on... What? He has showed legitimately zero signs of decline. I'm sure when it comes it will be hard and fast but so far there is no indication we are there yet.

We've also tied, taken the lead, or been in FG range for the win 11x in the past 2 years.

We've lost 9 games in the past 3 years where we've been tied or leading inside of 5 minutes only to blow it.

I just can't imagine Brees going long past 40. How many times has that happened in NFL? He's already declining. Stats don't tell the full story. I remember a time when you were in those 4 quarters and Brees would come from behind and win. Doesn't happen nearly as often anymore. Granted, it's not all his fault with shitty defense play or just some bizarre situation like blocked FGs...but still, earlier in his career bad defenses didn't hold him back either. I've seen a lot of games were he could've put us back into it and his untimely INTs cost us. I've also seen many games(ESPECIALLY past 3-4 years) where it seems like he's getting huge numbers in garbage time in games that are already over.

Don't know. Sometimes it seems like our offense is very overrated despite their constant top 5 ranking. By that I mean it feels like they get a huge chunk of their stats when teams are up a few TDs on us and just playing back. I've seen plenty of games where the offense can't do dick and defense is doing all they can then by the time offense finally wakes up in the 4th defense shits the bed because they've been carrying the weight around the entire game. Same could be said for when the defense is shitting the bed the entire game, offense is also struggling, then all of sudden they open up once the game is out of hand.

So yeah, I do think our offense is overrated especially when compared to our earlier years. You might look at the stats and say they tell otherwise but anyone who's watched the Saints since Payton has been here should all agree his best PCing days were his first 5 years or so and same for Brees. I feel like this team has been on decline since after the season Payton got hurt on the sidelines and despite Brees hitting some major numbers I don't feel like he's as good as he was when he was first here. He's throwing the ball more because he's behind more and he's also costing us a lot more TOs. Hard to say if it's decline on him or just a shittier team than what he had earlier in his career. Probably a little of everything.

I love Brees but I would not be mad if the Saints made an aggressive move for Cousins. He's about as good an option as it gets for your future right now. Might not ever be as good as Brees but right now he's playing at a high level and if he proves he can sustain it into this year Saints should seriously look at him. They're not going to get it in the draft unless they get super lucky. I also wouldn't be mad if they kept Brees until he retires. Either is good by me.

This has been statistically proven to be false

Maybe but it sure as hell doesn't feel like it when you're watching the games.

You just killed your own thread without realizing it.

Why would the Redskins want to trade for a QB that can't bring his won team to the playoffs, when they have a guy on roster that has done it 2 years in a row. Is the place they want to go a top 10 pick?

He has 26 interceptions the past 2 years. He had 29 in his first 2 here, along with a lot more fumbles.

Even in 2009 and 2010, he had 33 interceptions.

The 2015+2016 interception totals were the 2nd lowest in his career with the Saints.

His interception rate in 15 and 16 is well below his career interception rate with the saints.

First 5 years = 0.026 rate
Last 2 years = 0.02 rate

The time to trade Drew will be obvious to us all. We still got some years.

I hate the garbage time argument. This is the NFL, every one of those mofos out there are fighting to keep their jobs.

I'll go on record and say that I like Cousins a lot. If we lost Brees today, and could get Cousins tomorrow I'd be extremely excited.

He's probably the closest thing to Brees in the NFL when Brees arrived in NO.
