I got hosed but that is because I made a pile of money on the market. I didn't estimate the right amount of the quarterly tax I had to pay and then I completely forgot to send the state their quarterly payment so they hit me with a penalty and now I feel like I need to go back to school to figure out the underpayment amount. I have no clue how to fill that fracking form out to determine the underpayment and the underpayment penalty.
TLDR I hate taxes.

I paid about the same as last year. I didn't notice any change.

To get a little more specific...
If you are focused on wealth-building (and compounding), choose free loan from gov't for years.

Just make sure you're paying enough each quarter to not hit a penalty.

I'm more interested in how many people used AI to prepare their taxes this year.
Someone does mine for me just because I trust him and while I can do them, I just rather be safe, but after they were filed, I ran it through ChatGPT and it all checked out.
But any AI tool is only as good as the information you give it and if you know what you are feeding it then you should be able to do your own taxes so the only thing you can do, without feeding it information, is to ask it to overlook before you file.

Wife got a job this year and didn’t account for enough withholding on my account…we owe 3,400 this year

I used Claude to help me adjust my W4 and it was accurate to the penny

Had to pay more this year. Get penalized for working harder.

I’ve gotten refunds for the last decade. Getting money back from the state this year and owe the Feds almost the same amount. It was a wash. Much worse than usual.

Paid more than ever in taxes

I always owe. We actually got $550 back this year. I was happy
