And New Orleans got all the coverage. Ask yourself why that was? And for all the (appropriate) coverage Livingston Parish is getting, make no mistake, huge swaths of main residential areas in Baton Rouge proper got wiped out as well. Most people outside the area don't know that because, guess what? They aren't getting any coverage.

How air time do all the floods get? Really none. I can recall all the times it floods in the Midwest and it's a blip in coverage. They occur every 2 years or so it seems.

I couldn't return to my house for 8 days after Katrina. For this flood, 36 hours.

More recognizable city.
Hurricanes get more coverage, in general.
The levees broke, which is a huge deal.
Thousands of people died.

Why are you people so caught up with how much air time you get?

What levee did Bush blow up in New Orleans ?

FIFY. No levees were blown up and if dumbasses stayed when told to get out well in advance, it's on them.

Both events are terrible but they aren't exactly alike either. New Orleans is a major economic hub for the state and port for the US, that's why it got more attention.

The national media coverage has been a joke for this disaster. Anyone who disputes this is an idiot. I have relatives that have said they saw more coverage about Sterling being shot than the floods. Lets see a black criminal is shot by police and its bigger news than thousands of people losing everything they have...that makes sense.

Local disasters like floods and wildfires don't get much pub, in general.

We lived in unofficial martial law for years. We as a city was stuck under curfew. The national guard policed the streets with Humvee's and M-16s. It was shot on site in some areas if you were caught out at night. Meanwhile most of BR hasn't skipped a beat so it's totally the same.

I'm sorry, but this simply isn't true.

Maybe, but there's no way to verify that. Could just be your perception.

I went to 9th ward during Katrina for rescue efforts. Many of the people refused to leave. We did get a lot of people out though.

I'm well aware. My parents were right in the heart of Sandy and I vividly remember a thread that said "let's make fun of these stupid Yankees" in how they prepare for a hurricane and how NY "deserved" it. Thankfully my family was fine and only had some roof damage and lost 1 car. But some of my high school friends lost everything and yet this board was laughing at it. This time my college friends and former coworkers in Baton Rouge are losing everything and these morons can't get over the dick measuring contest. One thing about the OT is that the people on here are very quick to play the victim and then dismiss others when those others are the victim.

Just to be fair, most of the dick measurers are being called out on here. Overall, in real life, few people are bitching about not enough media coverage.

Not only BR and Livingston but Ascension, Ibberville, and St. James parishes are still flooding. Also Lafayette Youngsville, and Broussard got it bad.
St. Landry, St. Martin, Acadia, and Vermillion are still fighting floodwaters and will be for the next 10 days. But these parishes are rural so they don't get the coverage but lots of folks in these places are just a poor as people in the 9th ward.

A large part of the reason is the build up to Katrina. At one point you had a Cat 5 buzz saw headed straight for a world renowned city. You had video of the mayor telling everyone that this was THE ONE. You had coverage of the evacuation leading up to the storm. You had the hype of all television channels who relish pending disasters for ratings. You had in game video of the storm hitting. You had a false "all clear" sounded around midday only to find out that hell was breaking loose. It was simply put, more riveting, regardless of race. Of course, with a republican in office, the plight of black victims was a far more useful bludgeon against Bush for the leftist media.

Ehh, I mean we were playing them that week so it probably just felt that way.

All in all, Baton Rouge feels like it got the pub of most floods. There is plenty of room to bitch about local media and a lack of adequate coverage/warnings after the rain stopped, but that's another story altogether
